Hey everyone,
I went to a four hour symposium on Saturday (March 21). The keynote speaker was Dr. Leslie Weiner of USC. He is spoke at length on best practices for managing disease progression. He made several points that he considered important.
1. All persons with MS need to be taking 3,000 IU of vitamin D3 each day. (there is NO problem with toxicity at this dosage)
2. You must not smoke (absolutely positively)
3. Exercise should be considered as important as any medical treatment -- at least 30 minutes everyday forever
4. Omega 3 via diet or supplements (no recommendation on dosage)
5. Get and stay on a progression therapy
6. If you have any bladder problems at all, (retention or frequency) test for UTIs every 3 months and treat aggressively
He also said that the new thinking on progression therapies is that if your current therapy is not working as well as it was, then consider adding something to it rather than quitting and starting something else. His example was to add Cellcept to one of the CRAB drugs.
