Elevated T-cell count

Hello Everyone: I "skipped" over here from the Lyme Disease forum that I am normally active in. I was diagnosed with what the doc thought was neurological Lyme but after doing much research after doing many lab tests I am back over here with more questions to all of you with MS. My T-cell count (CD4/CD8, CD/56) are all elevated and the strange thing is that in Lyme Disease they are normally LOW. So, I am here to ask you if you all have elevated T cell count and if that is generally connected to MS. I had an MRI back in 2004 and it was normal. Opinion please!! Thanks...  D

Hi Dowa,

I have read your posts here and on the lyme board.  I am sorry no one had responded.  I don't think elevated T-cells is something we have to consider.  In MS it is not that we have elevated numbers......we just have T-cells that are somehow wanting to attack myelin. 

From my understanding, elevated T-cells is a sign of infection or it can be caused by something more serious.  HIV, leukemia and multiple myloma are the bad ones.  What does your doctor say about the elevated T-cells?

I hope you are just fighting a cold or something minor.  Good luck.  Feel free to keep us posted as to how you are doing.

Thank you Gretchen. I wish it was just a cold, but my T-cells have been elevated since since 2004.My doctor does not know, that is why I was searching here. He is blaming the Lyme disease even though my test is negative, but apparently that doesnt mean much. I'll keep reading, thanks again.  D

My understanding (from llmd) is that CD4 is overactive (high levels) in Lyme. CD 57 is reduced.

Btw, Lyme attacks myelin as well. I have a friend who's been given a bunch of dx's, including MS and was given the whole "myeline" lecture -- she's just now considering being tested for Lyme -- she hasn't been helped by any treatment at all, and is on massive doses of prednisone -- because her body is attacking the "myelin".

Of course, prednisone increases Lyme growth dramatically -- so a good idea to test for Lyme if taking any steroids and have been told have "MS".

So many "trash bin" diagnoses out there -- like "PDD" in kids. Dr's don't know as much they say and I think the more concerned the patient, the more the doctors like to sound knowledgeable and comforting and give a "diagnosis" , even if they may be wrong.
