Just got off phone with nurse for imd. She said that the doctor wrote a letter stating that other than a viral infection she coudn't figure out what was wrong with him, and that she was sorry she couldn't be of more help. That she wanted to refer him to the neuro in her words "back to where he came from"!
She doesn't want to see him anymore! That is so odd, anyone have any ideas. Oh and she still WILL NOT refer big clinic. I mean flat refuses. I said you realize that the neuro isn't interested in being our pcp, that's why she wanted us to see you and that she has told us several times that she won't refer, (but yet she's the one who recommended it) Finally i asked the nurse, "on a personal level, we won't bother you again, but in your opinion what would you do if you were us" she said "on a personal level, in my opinion, I would get a second opinion from a primary care physician." We are left with nothing..... She says she doesn't know what's wrong, but has only done one blood test and looked in his ears, eyes, mouth, & mushed on his stomach. So really she hasn't even tried to look! Plus, if she doesn't know and says she doesn't know then why didn't she refer us.
Am I the only one who thinks this is very strange? The only thing I can think of is that she either run a credit check on him (his credit isn't very good) or she & the insurance are in coohoots together... Am I crazy? Any suggestions? Thank you again for your time.
Doctors are not compelled to see any patient. And unless the patient is dying, doctors can refuse treatment and refust to continue treatment for any reason -- simply because they don't want to, can be good enough.
I don't think there is any conspiracy there (probably not a credit check; can't speak to the insurance issue without knowing a LOT more about your insurance).
Suggestion -- exactly what the nurse said. Go back to your primary (that wasn't the IMD, was it?) and/or to another physician, start over, get a second opinion. You don't even have to tell the new doctor it's a "second opinion" if you don't want to: simply start fresh, with a current list of symptoms, and see where it goes.
(A lot can be determined from just one blood test: you listed a whole bunch of results from that one test; just not a diagnosis that the doctor was willing to commit to!)
