Anyone know anyhting about Cardiolipins? and Thyroid issues?

My neuro did some blood tests and and My thyroid T4 level is off and my Anti phospholipid panel showed that my cardiolipin IgG and cardiolipin IgM are extremely high. I am having weird pain issues so I'm wondering does anyone know anything about this that can explain it to me. He said I don't have lupus. He thought I might hve lupus as well as MS...HOW FUN! but at least it is not Lupus. Does anyone think that the avonex interferon beta could cause this??? ok any help greatly appreciated!!!

Hey Theresa!

Well i'm blown away...i know nothing about what u'r asking, but i'm sure others here will. I did some research thru google and below is the best link i found.  I'm certainly glad u don't have Lupus! What are u'r pain issues? Maybe if u can describe them here others will have some knowledge as to their possible experience with it. Take good care and let us know how everything is.

Not really sure as to how to help you, but if this is of any help at all, I have hypothyroidism, and my endo has said that is causing my lipid tests to go bonkers. Thats the only thing I can offer for help. Hope you get the answers you are looking for. Best of luck.

so I have the answer... I am more likely to have a blood clot. I might have to go on blood thinners and def have to come off of Birth control. Apparently it looks like I might have another autoimmune disease. I have to go to a rheumotoligist next week. FUN!

Wow...at least u have an answer, but i'm sorry to hear its a blood clot. Be really careful and please let us know how u'r doing and how the appt goes next week. Thanks for the update!

My dad has MS and a blood disease called antiphilosphid anticardiolipin syndrome. It is very rare. Most neurologists are not familiar with this disease.

What makes them think you have a blood clot? My cardiolipin was high too and I was told not to worry about it...I have Hahimotos thyroiditis(autoimmune) and I'm wondering if that can make the cardiolipin run high? How high was yours? and what was your T4?

Jakel- your dad has MS and Hughes (AAS is often called hughes) ? I was hoping that maybe they misdiagnosed my MS and I only have hughes..... I will know soon enough though I did the blood test yesterday.

Dgrimes- my cardiolinpin antibody was over 60 it is supposed to be under 20. I don't have a blood clot but I am more likely to clot. You should ask them to test you again. You should be tested for Hughes as well.  A lot of docs will say for the cardiolipin thing to do nothing, be careful when travelling and make sure you take an aspirin if you travel. (or at least that is what my doc says).  I will keep you updated. What was yours at?

Mine was at 23 which I think was considered moderately elevated??? I would have to go back and look at my labs. I just remember it coming back out of range.

yeah I think that is just a bit. reg is <20. That is what my labs say. Let me know what you find in your labs....

My lab has the same range. Maybe I should have it retested in a few months and see if it has changed...I have been taking flax oil for 6 months which is supposed to be good for the heart.

Is a high cardiolipin a heart problem or blood related?
