Emg

Hello everyone...I have a question. My nuro wants me to get a emg test and before my surgry, this Feb. 12, 2007, he wanted me to have a spinal but now he wants the emg and then later the spinal. I have alot of weakness and burning in my legs when walking and esspecially going up and down stairs. I also have the same sensations in my arms and recently in the abdoman area. And let me remind you that last September I had optic nuritis, followed by facial and neck spasms, the nuro had the eye surgeons report in his hand. The nuro is taking me seriously now,but what do you think he is looking for and is it worth it to get 10 needles altoghether in my legs ? I have a needle phobia !

Good to see u again! I think maybe u'r saying ur doc wanted the spinal tap before u'r surg that was done Feb 12th and now he wants an EMG?? I think that if u'r doc thinks u need this test, then u should do all u can to get thru it and have it done. I"m sorry u have the needle phobia, but u'r very strong and u can push past that to get this done and care for u'rself. U'r health is that important. This is just one more step in the journey of finding out what may be going on and it's in u'r best interest to follow ur doc's advice. Please let us know how it goes and how u'r doing. My advice is pretty much the same. Do as your doctor asks. The EMG will show whether there is peripheral nerve damage in your legs, and if so -- might point to something other than a disorder of the central nervous system (MS is a disorder of the central nervous system). If there is a peripheral nerve problem, that might be treatable, where MS is not. It simply sounds like the doctor is covering all possibilities, wanting to rule out anything other than MS which might be causing your problems.
