I'm not sure how to link here? But I found a website that seems to give a good idea of what the EMG/Nerve conduction test is:
http://www.podiatrynetwork.com/document_disorders.cfm?id=220 "Commonly the EMG/NCV test is used to diagnosis one of the following: Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome, Peripheral Neuropathy, Neuromuscular disorders, Nerve palsy or Paralysis, and Radioculopathy."
They are actually two different tests. The EMG test records the electrical activity in your muscles- the doctor stimulates your nerves on various points along the feet, legs, lower back, etc.. using needles, inserted into the muscles. (I just had the lower body test this time, although I was tested years ago for carpal tunnel, and had a test on my wrists/hands). The neurologist who did this to me did a very good job, but it was when he did it in my lower back that it hurt.
I tried relaxing, but it was not fun. :( (Probably because I've had two epidurals in my life, and sort of panicked at what was coming). The nerve conduction test wasn't as bad. Electrodes are taped to the skin, and it's kind of like it shocks you going down each point along the nerves. It tingles and even makes you jerk and some points, but it doesn't hurt.
(mod note: Hi sylvie, I just made your link active for you. Depending on your web browser, at the top of where you post you might see a blue globe, just hit that and enter the web address to make the link active. )
