EMG negative - several things ruled out - but ouch!

Well, had the EMG today, and I have to say, there are many other things in life I would have preferred to experience.  The Doctor did my right arm and my right leg.  She said all tests were within normal limits, there is nothing wrong with my nerves themselves and apparently the muscles are all ok too.

I lost count of the needle sticks, but I did think I would die when she put one in my neck and two in my back.  The nerve conduction portion wasn't tooo terrible except for a couple of spots that were pretty sharp feeling, and the repititions of 8 were pretty awful.

So - for me - today we eliminated the possibility that the numbness (and dropping things) in my hands could be carpel tunnel.  We eliminated a pinched nerve (by disc compression?) and a few other muscular and nerve related problems including, to my understanding, ALS - which I didn't think I had, but was still a pretty scary thought.  I guess it's going to come down to what the MRI shows, and if it's negative, I'll be back in limbo-land wondering what's wrong with me.

Since I work at the hospital, I will be able to read my radiology report quickly, but since I have little understanding of it, I probably still won't know what it means.  That won't stop me, I'm afraid, from taking it in.

Anyone else have an EMG - what did it show, and what are you diagnosed with now?  I would love to hear from you.

OMG i told the guy who did mine they should use these for torture chambers. Did not enjoy one bit. I waited 8 months for an urgent appointment in gloucestershire, had it about 1 month ago and still waiting for the results. The guy who did the tests after about 2 minutes asked me if i had problems with my back and had I had an MRI. Yes to both. What was the result I told him it said UNCONVINCING LESIONS on the spine. He looked at me incredulously and said what does that me, I DONT KNOW I SAID. I told him I have terrible back ache. Anyway he stuck loads of pins in and did muscle check as well. In the end he said to me, when are you seeing the specialist again, I DONT KNOW I SAID, hummm he said well I will try and get these back to him asap. Anyway I rang neuro 2 weeks ago the results are in and all my paperwork is there and the secretary told me he has to write a report, but at the moment the typing is about 4 weeks behind. GOOD INIT.

So I still wait.

Still dont know what is wrong, still disabled, off sick since september, and now given up my job as wages finished, and now claiming IB and get DLA full mobility and middle rate cre. DLA doctor said to me I would say 98% you have PPMS but being 56 you probably will never get a diagnoses of MS. I am also being checked for LUPUS had one positive for this as well.

Anyway sorry went off a bit. Nerve conduction tests are the pits.

I had an EMG last week,weird, not so painful I mean I didn't know what to expect. My legs felt tight and my toes felt kind of spastic on left foot and the right leg I couldn't feel a lot of the sticks. My only complaint was the doctor gave no warning just bamm, a stick so some of them I jumped.

Went back for the "follow up" and the doctor said, the test didn't show any muscle problems, but didn't say any thing about the nerves,then he asked me about my eyes, as I have had o.n. and now I am getting new glasses made because my eyes got worst 3 times in only 9 months and my glasses are very expensive.He asked me about my legs feeling weak etc. and I told him that I have had tremors in my right leg at night sometimes lasting 2-3- hours, one night my foot was going so fast and up my calf it felt like it wanted to fly out of my covers and it woke me up ! He went on to ask me if I have ever tried rebif or avonex. He asked me to get a spinal that he didn't think I had a decease, what the heck,,,I am so ready to just get another doctor, what a mixed bag of tricks he handed me, he never even

"looked" at my MRI, just read the tech. report and my co-pay was 600.00 and here I am still no aswers. So I have decided the next eposode I have, I am going to the hospital and ask them to fixure this thing out while I still have a 401 k and house left with little in checking and no answers. But at least I am not alone as many of you are experiencing many similar issues. Sorry my spelling is so bad tonight.
