Anyone Know How To Obtain Mobile Devices........And Another ? On Patches

I just found this site today. I have had MS for many years, probably since I was 17 (too many years ago!) yeah I also have Sarcoidosis which made the firm diagnosis even more difficult. Anyway, I have been looking through many of the posts and have a couple of questions. Does anyone know of an agency or grant that helps people obtain accessible vehicles? I, as many of you I'm sure, live on disability and so my finances are very limited. I am a minister and so much want to continue doing what I have been doing for 20 years. Without a vehicle though it is very difficult! If anyone has any ideas I would much appreciate.

Secondly, and I don't know if anyone can answer this one, I am on Fentanyl Patch and have been for many years. Recently they came out with a new patch which is terrible! I was wondering if anyone else has a problem with it and, if so, do you know of the place to compliam about it? I have tried but been unsuccessful.

Welcome to the board! I"m so glad u decided to post and hope u'll find the support and any answers u may be looking for here. This is a very caring and supportive community. Everyone will do all they can to help where they can.

Unfortunately i don't have any answers for u, but will do some research to try to find some info on the vehicles. Do u mean an actual car/truck/van with the proper adjustments or maybe a motorized scooter type vehicle??

I can't tell u about the patch, but maybe others will be along soon to help with that. Again, welcome to the board! We hope u'll be comfortable here!

I have to say, I like your name. I am a big fan of hummingbirds myself, and their flower preferences have definitely influenced my plant selection in our garden.

 

While I’m not sure about specific agencies that help with accessible vehicle funding, I was wondering if you have contacted the National MS Society and/or the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America? I don’t believe they offer this kind of funding, but they might be able to direct you to agencies that do. Your local chapter of the National MS Society might even have some information specifically geared for your area.

 

 I’m sorry to hear about your problems with the new Fentanyl patch. You might try posting your question about the patch on the Chronic Pain board here on Healing Well. There are most likely people on that board who are also on the new patch, and might be able to offer some insight.

Thank you for your post! Sunny, I have tried all the places you have listed and ran into a "brick wall." Rhonda, yes I am looking for help with a van. Right now I just need one with a lift as my upper body is alright right now. I really miss being able to get out to minister in nursing homes and such. I just keep praying!! I love your quote! I will look forward to getting to know everyone better!

HI there..I know I had to get a wheelchair for my mom and quickly ..I called the Legion in town and they have some there.I had one within an hour
I live in Ontario but I am hoping that perhaps the Legions there would have them as well .........or help with devices so you can continue the great work you do

As for the patch I cannot use either or any so I am sorry I have no answer there for you

You're asking for a Van or car with wheelchair accessibility (not equipment like a wheelchair?) I don't know of any place where you can get assistance for something like a van or car. The car companies do offer a "rebate" for accessible equipment, but it's a paltry $1,000, which won't pay for much of anything but maybe hand controls. If you find one somewhere, let us know - -as MANY of us would love to have one!

but even then, they're expensive. I've been doing research for myself -- a wheelchair accessible van usually ends up costing about double the cost of the "regular" new van.

Have you talked with your congregation about this? Seems like a congregation might be willing to raise money to buy something like that.

Also watch your local papers -- people will get accessible vans for family members, the family member will pass away, and they'll put it up for sale. Sometimes those will be pretty reasonable, as the family just wants to "be rid" of it. Good luck!
