Well, *I'm* certainly an unhappy camper!  Had a major computer crash this morning.  Turned on the computer, was just downloading emails...when the computer went nuts.  Obviously a virus...a big BAD virus...getting in to everything.  Porno, weird error messages, really peculiar messages, stuff flashing on/off...

Had to shut down, Call Dell, and the only way to "fix" it was to essentially erase everything from the computer, and start over.

So I've been spending the morning doing that.  Bottom line -- if you emailed me at any time..your email is lost.  And I don't have very recent email backed up...so I don't have your email addresses, either.

Rhonda and Gretchen have my email address -- if you need/want to reach me, email them, and ask them to email me..

and Rhonda and Gretchen, please email me so that I can get your addresses back onto my list!  thanks!

WOW...i'm sorry!! I HATE probs with my computer!! I"m so glad things are up and running again, but sorry u had to go thru the whole format thing. Geesh...i've had to do that in the past...just a pain! I'll email u and be glad to send any others u'r way. Take care friend and take the rest of the day off...u've earned it!

Oh man the virus ate your porno??!!!  Just kidding!  Seriously that is horrible.  I hope you had all your photos downloaded and in safe places.  I am so addicted to my little laptop.  I would just die without my electronic friend.  Good luck getting back up and running.

Oh, man, Uppity! I hate that when it happens but don't love it that Dell can take you back to a good point? I've got two Dells at home and it's been a lifesaver (got my son one a couple years ago for Christmas and before he and his wife split, she really buggered it up! Dell saved it with a simple "go back"! I know Norton's does it too but Norton's gets so complicated.)

I've learned though to back up all my documents and make an email of all my addresses into a word doc (just add your entire list to an open email, then cut and past all that into a word doc and save as My address book) then put it on a Thumb Drive (Flash Drive) and voila! You've got it all for times like this...

All this crap folks waste their time doing to mess us up on computers is for the birds! Glad you're back up!

I wish I'd had this lesson before the crash!  I did have all my photos backed up (well, most of them...what I didn't, I can easily replace, some of my new dollhouse construction, for example..)  And most of the really important documents.  But the emails are "toast".  And while I did back up a recipe program, I'm not figuring out how to get those files back into the program...but I'm "talking" to them (via email) and hopefully I'll figure that out.

NEXT time I'll have my emails backed up. If I can only figure out how to do that!  confused

Email me Uppity, I can explain it even more if you want me too but it's like sending an email to everyone in your address book only you're not going to really send it, you just want to put everyone into your address bar where it says To: .....

Then you'll shadow over the entire list of names and addresses (make sure you're putting in addresses and not just their names, otherwise what you copy won't be a viable address) then cut and paste this out of the address bar  into a word document to preserve all the email addresses. You can even list their name then next to each email address so you know who's who. Then save the Word doc on your flash drive and voila! You've got your back up...

I know there's a way to save an address book in it's entirety but in my experience of fdisking computers and rebooting/reformatting drives something always gets lost so I just do this the long way to preserve it.

Now the same thing goes for your favorites links... but open an email, the go to each of your favorite places and copy that address and paste it into the body of the email, make a note of what it's for or the reference and send the email to yourself. You can keep it in cyberspace unopened for as long as you need or if you open it, forward it to yourself again and it'll still be preserved, when you get your puter back up, you open the email, save it to your saved emails.  open it, open each fave site, save the link into your new web bar and then you're back in business.

D'awesome, THANKS! I may just take you up on your offer! I'm really a computer illiterate..I know how to do really basic stuff, but when anything like this occurs, I'm just all thumbs.

I'm working on some other stuff today, but I'll likely contact you. Thanks again! :)

You're most welcome Uppity... over the years I've learned alot... enough to keep my computer repair techs on their toes when I do need them. I've fired a couple that I figured out were ripping me off along the way too! :) Just got done fdisking my laptop only to load and reload my win xp pro 5 times, but then it slugged along horribly so when I had my tech double check it, he found the hard drive had a failure... bummer! Today was hard drive purchase day, getting it back tomorrow all happy again! I feel like an appendage is gone when it's away! :) (Hubby says I'm in withdrawal... but I depend on it to keep from being cooped up in my office away from everyone so I can wireless in the rest of the house with him and son and still get work done. :) )
