Finally had the lumbar puncture. Was unpleasant but much better than the first attempt. This guy knew what he was doing. There was another stuff up, the receptionist from my neuro practice forgot to tell me that the LP wasn't in the hospital but was in a specialist centre 2 blocks away! I had to walk/run to get there so by the time I arrived at the right place I was 15 minutes late exhausted hot and frustrated. (not my fault)

Well wasn't the nurse snappy! She rushed me through to the xray room that fast I hardly had time to change! She looked after me post LP.
I seem to attract them don't I? lol
Anyway, had this done last Tuesday so does anyone know how long it takes to get the results? It is Saturday night here so I won't know anything until next week perhaps. They also took another blood sample. I guess tests elsewhere in the world probably take different times than Australia. I really want to know asap so I can get on with things. Hope everyone is doing ok. Have a good weekend! I'm off to bed now so will check back in tomorrow.

Hi, Cocoa. You had the LP on Tuesday? I'd probably try calling the doctor on Monday morning, and see if they have the results yet. If they don't, your call might prod them to get to it more quickly!

I'm glad the second go-round was easier than the first.

I find getting the quick results I go to the source myself! You can go to the medical records and get copies of the results yourself now if you want. If they had to send out a lab to an outlying place (which most likely they did) then those labs will take longer to get. OR you can wait for your doc to take the time to review the results, then the office assistants to find the time to call you to either A.) Give you an uneducated ZERO knowledge result reading or B.) set up an appointment with your doc.

The only bad thing about getting the results yourself is that you may not have a clue what they mean... In that case you call your doc office and tell the office staff about your "dir" need to see the doctor related to your results.

This is the fastest way I have found to do things. It works! It only took 8 days from when I went "blind" at work to seeing my pcp, an eye doc, getting an MRI, and walking into my new neuro's office with the films and results in hand! Oh yeah, and being diagnosed =/

I am sorry to hear that you had to get an LP done TWICE!!! OUCH!!! It is good to hear that you are rocovering well! Hope this helps, good luck to you.

Hi Cocoa,

I'm so glad youre second one went much better :-) I'm not sure about Australia but here in the US it takes about a week or so to get the results so I would think you should hear something early next week. Please let us know what you find out!

I've been a bit slack today, meant to check in before this but the fatigue has knocked me about a bit. I was reading an article by J. Lamar Freed Psy. D. that a member posted on this site.( Can't remember who lol!) How true is it? I have noticed if I rush about it takes 2 or 3 days to get over the rush! Wow this ms is a shocker. I'll let you know the outcome, and thanks for caring. Hope your week ahead is great.

UPDATE

Hi all,

Took your advice and phoned the Neuro's secretary and she tells me that the results aren't back yet. The main man is not back in the office until Wednesday. He is a Professor of Neurology so guess he must be teaching at the Griffith University as all his letterheads have that on them.
She said she would leave him a note about my GP being away so hopefully he will either ring me or write. I was unable to find out anything from the radiology department as I believe that the tests are done elsewhere, probably Brisbane.
I have an appointment today with the welfare department here we call Centrelink, who support people like me who can not support themselves. They will put me through the ringer I guess to see if I am capable of working which I know I'm not at this stage. I can hardly remember what day it is! I've noticed since the LP that my legs and feet constantly ache and have that pins and needles feeling with occasional shooting pain down my left leg. This could be partly my damaged disc as well as a reaction to the procedure. I am hoping that it isn't permanent.
Will let you know what happens.

Just wanted to jump in here and say best wishes on u'r test results. Waiting can be the pits, but hopefully the wait will be worth it and u'll get some much needed answers. I'll keep u in my prayers and thoughts as u wait and hope to hear good news from u soon.

Still no news and symptoms are still the same.
Appt. with the Welfare Psychologist Tuesday and after being quizzed for over an hour she tells me that I can't get a disability support pension until I have a confirmed diagnosis and am being treated and my condition is stable. This will be interesting.........
When if ever is ms stable??? I almost burst out laughing but contained myself well I thought! You would think that she would know more about ms than I do as she must deal with people like me almost every day.
I notice that it seems to take forever from other members to be diagnosed so I will just hope I get an accurate diagnosis and don't have to wait for years and years! Hope everyone else is going ok.........

Let us all know if you ever have a "stable MS condition"!!! LOL! I'm sorry they are dragging you along...I hope you get some answers soon.
