Had my LP today and got EP results

Had my LP today. It was actually fine and not painful at all! I only had a visual EP. It was normal. I did find something else today. An MRI of my arm showed a BUNCH of torn ligaments so that at least explains the pain but npt the numbness...DOc says location of my lesions dont make send with the right arm. Also sending me to a hand surgeon for ligaments... If LP is normal, he said we wil have another MRI of brain in a few months to se if lesions may have grown.

YIPPEEEE!!! Information is priceless!! I hope u'r feeling better now at least just for the knowledge u've gotten. It's good the EP was normal and u had no pain with the lp!! I"m sorry about the ligaments, but it's good he's sending u on to the surgeon and u can get this taken care of hopefully soon. Could the reason for the torn ligaments have done some nerve damage to u'r arm? I guess i'm saying do u remember hurting u'r arm and is it's possible that all the prob originated from that? Did he say why he felt the lesions were there? What may have caused them? Please keep us posted and let us know how the lp results are. I'm so glad u got some answers today!

He said he had no idea why the lesions were there... Said they could even be there since childhood...LP will help determine something about them I guess...EIther way I need to get an MRI in a few months to make sure they havent grown in #.... He said numbness would not be caused by torn ligaments, but at least I know the pain can be treated now! I think I might have done it at the gym... Not sure though...

I'm glad for you. I'm not glad that you have the torn ligaments,but I am glad that u know what's causing the pain in u'r arm. I just joined the forum last evening but I had been reading some of u'r postings and found myself very interested. I hope when u have the new MRI there aren"t any new lesions and wish you good luck.

Hi,

I will get my LP results next week. I have a feeling they will be normal. I read today that numbness CAN be caused by torn ligaments!! So my doc miht have been wrong on that...Why the lesions are there, I dont know...Doc even said that it didnt make sense for me to have symptoms on my right side considering the location of the lesions!

Anyways, LP will say something... What would be strange is if LP is 0positive but yet arm is not relate dto it but brain MRI just happened to see unrelated lesions... My lower baqck hurts today. Nothing intolerable but really hurts of I bend. But really, LP was MUCHHHHHHH easier than I thought... So for thos ewho havent done it, NOOOO big deal.

This may be a stupid question, but u'll have to excuse me I'm new to this. What does LP and EP mean?

It's possible that you have a nerve trapped. You may have injured yourself somehow, which may be why you tore those ligaments and got a nerve trapped in the process.

As far as brain lesions go, MS is NOT the only thing that causes them. They can be caused by migraine headaches, hypertension, diabetes, infectious diseases, nurtitional deficiencies, collagen vascular disease (ie, lupus) injuries, or just as a normal part of aging. They are pretty common in the general asymptomatic population

It sounds like you need to see a different doctor, perhaps an orthopedic physician?

Great news in a way! Better to think the numbness is from the torn ligaments than from something as bad as ms! We're all praying, crossing our fingers and wishing u the best on the lp results!

LP = Lumbar Puncture...spinal tap
EP = Evoked Potentials...sensory path tests. Measure how effeciently and quickly the messages get from the nerves to the brain. There are Visual Evoked Potentials and Auditory Evoked Potentials...Visual is just as it sounds, measures nerve conduction in the eyes. Auditory measures hearing nerve condution.

The tests are easy..so easy i fell asleep during my auditory! They connect some little things to u'r scalp, have u sit in front of a tv with black and white blocks on it and a dot in the center. U stare at the dot until they're done and tell u to quit. Same connectors with auditory except u lay down and listen to a series of clicks until they tell u to get up...or wake u up! Hope this helps and also hope if i've missed anything that someone will come along and fill in the blanks for me! Keep asking questions...it's great!
