LP today @ 2:00

Hi Denda,

When I had my LP in October, it took about a week to ten days to get the results back.  (Mine was negative for everything.)

Are you having the LP done with fluroscopy?  For me, that's the only way to go.  It's a lot easier and less painful because the doctor can see exactly where to insert the needle instead of poking around at your back.

I hope your test goes well and you get the results you need soon.

_{I work in a hospital and lab and most of these test are sent out to a reference lab and can up to 7 days for final reports to come back and get to your Dr.  The cell count and glucose are done in the hospital lab.  Cytology is sent to the pathologist at the hospital.  Your Spinal fluid will arrive at the lab with the order, the lab will pour off the correct amount of MLs into sterile containers using sterile pippetts.  The specimens wll be picked up by the refence lab by the end of the day.  The next day the reference lab will set up the test and start the process.  Most times the hospital get the final reports within several days but then they need to go to the Dr.  I had to wait 2 weeks for mine.}

I had a lumbar puncture about a month ago as well. Mine was positive. Like I said, I was diagnosed officially last week after further changes in my MRI. Took 4 months for an official diagnosis since the symptoms started. I suppose I am "lucky" to not be in limbo any longer... My LP did not hurt in the least. Good luck to you!

It was so nice to log on to the forum this morning and see all the well wishes! Thank you all so much.

Everyone was right, it was a piece of cake. The anesthesiologist had me sit up with my feet over the side of the bed on a chair in a kind of hunched over position, numbed me and the needle was in. He was very nice, my hubby got to watch everything. It seemed to take forever for the fluid to get all the sample tubes filled, but of course, it didn't fill them just a few drops in each. We all carried on a nice conversation during the whole thing about why I was doing this and what my MRI showed, it kept my mind busy. I had a little residual headache most of the night, but I'm sure that was nerves and nothing to do with the lp and I'm a little stiff today, but glad that test is done and waiting for the results. I'll keep everyone informed. Thanks again for everything! :o)

Hi Everyone -

Just thought I would update the group. I'm kind of bummed at the moment. My neurologist office just called and told me that the anesthesiologist didn't pull enough spinal fluid for the ms profile to be performed. All the other tests came back OK, but of course the biggies couldn't be done. I have to go back in to the hospital for another LP tomorrow. And my dr told the anesthesiologist to make sure and 'fill it to the brim' with spinal fluid. I'll keep you all updated. Keep your fingers crossed.

Geez!! What a bummer!!! I guess things just happen, but maybe this time they can get enuf to last awhile...and get ALL the testing done! I'll keep u in my prayers and hope it'll go well for u. Let us know how it goes and how u'r feeling.
