Hello to all. I am new to the site and have been nervously reading through all of the posts today.  I am a 24 year old female and I have not been diagnosed with MS yet but have been to the doctor twice and will see a neurologist on Tuesday. My problems started out as a tingling/numbness in my left hand which spread up my arm.  A few days later it moved to my entire left leg and face. It has now been two weeks and feeling of numbness has continued along with a "heavy" leg on my left side and seeing "floaters". I am just wondering what other people have had as their first symptoms?? If this is MS, how long do the periods of numbness last? Would love to hear from you while i'm in limboland. Thanks!

Welcome to the board! I hope u've felt comfortable reading and am so glad u decided to post! I think my first symptoms were much like how u describe u own. I'm in limboland with u. I began with wet feelings in my right hand, moved to numbness in my face (right side only) and then moved on to generalized numbness moving throughout my body in patches. After that came really rough balance probs and a drunken like walk. Just couldn't walk in a straight line to save my life! I've had the heavy legs too...it's horrible and i'm sorry u've had to deal with it. Has u'r doc run any tests yet? Many things can mimic ms and can make it very difficult to either dx ms or other such illness'. The dx process can be very long too, so be prepared for a possible long journey and some very frustrating times. I hope u'll ask any questions u have and will find, as we all have, that this is a wonderful site with very supportive people. Again, welcome!

Good luck with your neuro visit! I hope he'll be able to offer some answers and advice as to next steps to take to be diagnosed. It's pretty early to even speculate as to what is going on with you, though.

Hi Commett,

 

     MS symptoms can be unpredicatable.  Numbness can last for an indefinate period of time or it can come and go depending on the person.  There are lots of other possible causes for your symptoms though and many tests need to be done to rule out other possibilities.  Good luck with your neuro visit, and let us know how things go.
