I am just curious, I was recently diagnosed (6months ago) with fibro, but this ms hug thing you all talk about
sounds so familiar to me. I get a band that wraps around me just below my bra strap and it hurts like hell feels like I have a big belt on an it makes breathing hurt. Also, I get a pain in my right leg that feels like someone took the muscle behind my knee and twisted it. My calves also burn constantly, it feels like the muscle that is attached to the front of the bone. The reason I am asking is some of my symptoms act like fibro will but some of them don't , guess I am just wondering if it could be both?

Fibro can cause a lot of symptoms that look like MS. Or indeed you could have both....or the fibro diagnosis is wrong and you really have MS. Do you have the typical "pressure point pain" that is a sign of fibro?

Kat,
I have been sick for 18 years. First dx with Lupus by process of elimination, a new rheum in 1995 didn't agree because I hadn't had a positive blood test, said it had to be fibro. My neuro dx me last fall with MS and fibro. She is knowlegable enough to tell me which symptoms are fibro and which are MS, explains they overlap but are significantly differnet. I have eleven out of 18 pressure points, other than the debilitating fatigue, I am learning which symptoms are which. The MS hug, muscle spasms, electrical shock like pains from my spine, reaction to heat I've been suffering from lately, bladder and bowel problems, numbness and tingling, plus lesions which have worsened over 2 MRI's all came on recently within the last few years and are different from what I dealt with since 1998. Fibro for me reacts more like an arthritis. Painful joints, stiffness, soreness. I hope that helps. I have a great neuro who regularly treats MS, and has taken the time to explain this to me. She also stated that fibro and MS go hand in hand alot. I hope this helps. I don't which kind of doctor dx'd you, but maybe a trip to a neuro with records, lists of symptoms would help. Have you had an MRI, lumbar puncture, or evoked potential test? They all look for MS.
good luck, this board has been a great support and a wealth of information for me.
Debbie
