I have an ileostomy so I won't be much help in suggesting a diet for you. But I am sure that someone else here on this forum will be able to help you out.
Did these "back up" issues just begin? Why did you have your emergency surgery? Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn's Disease, etc. And have you had any other abdominal surgeries?
More information may help others to give you their opinions...
Keep your chin up, and Welcome to HW.com. We are a very compassionate group here. I'm sure someone will be chiming in on this question soon.

Is it possible that you have an adhesion or particial obstruction where you were reconnected? This is common; however, you would need a medical work-up to find it. My Dr did an xray and said I was NOT obstructed and he sent me home. I knew I was having problems. Finally, I begged my Dr to please (I litterally begged) for my Dr to scope me and see what was going on for himself. Reluctantly, he scheduled to do a flex sigmoidoscopy. Once inside with the scope, he could see the particial obstruction and he sent me to the hospital to have surgery.
I hope this helps you. I am so sorry to hear of your suffering. That proces sounds like a nightmare. I lived on clear soups and jello for years because no one believed me. Remember, Drs are preforming a service. They are hear to serve YOU! You have rights. Keep searching for help and hopfully someone will listen.
Kindest Regards,

May I ask who your Dr. is? I have been seeing the best Dr in Boston for years now but I am sadly getting worse.

Nope, not my Dr. I have not had surgery yet. I see my Dr. next Wed and I have tons of questions for her. I have very severe IBS-C and most probably CI. From reading the boards I am not so sure surgery will help my problem.
