Hi,
it is great to go onto this site when I am feeling a little down (like the last couple of days) and read everybodies humourous stories and tales of coping with i.e what I call............... the plastic bag.
I have an permanent ileostomy due to Crohn's disease (i'm only 26) and still have issues sometimes, but it cheers me up to read about how other people cope.
Although, here our a few of my issues of my own....
1) My stoma is quite high, therefore the bag shows through my T-Shirt and it really annoys me. I often put a jumper on to hide it, but during the summer months here in Australia, I get quite hot....I don't want to wear a singlet as a second layer underneath.. that would just make me hotter...can anyone help ????
I don't like wearing high waisted trousers to hide the darn thing either, because of my age.... although I wear shorts quite a lot. I dream of the day I can just walk down the street, with just a T-Shirt and shorts on and no jumper.... just like I use to before I had to have the total protocolectomy end-ileostomy.....
2) I used to love horseriding, but have actually not tried since I had the operation in April of 2006. Has anyone actually tried horseriding with a bag ??? Is a one-piece or two piece better. I would prefer to go horseriding without a jumper on to hide the darn thing as well.
3) I have tried swimming... thank god this is one activity that I can still do without having to worry whether anyone can see the bag through my bathers.... I just went out and bought a one piece swim suit with lining .....
4) I played alot of tennis " before the bag " and loved it.... I havn't tried it since... again worried about the bag showing through the T-Shirt, as it often does when it gets full....
Any help, ideas or suggestions would be welcomed... especially about the horseriding...
Cheers.
amy.
