filters...do they really work?

ok, so i've just started using the convatec 2 piece snap ons with the filters. The first time i used it it definitely seemed as if it didnt get as puffy, but i dont know if that was just wishful thinking on my part. The second bag i used puffed just like the clear plastic ones i was sent home with. So my question is, do filters really work? if so how? and what are signs that they are not working?

i haven't ever seen them do anything. Although i do know that once they get wet they get clogged and don't work at all

I find that, with an ileostomy (our output is looser than a colostomy), filters work only until I lie down at night. During the night my output clogs up the filter rendering it useless. They seem to work better for colostomates though.

I'm using Hollister and find the filters a big waste of money.
They work for 5 minutes. Once you lie down it's all over.

I'm trying some Hollister filter samples this week and the only differences I've noticed so far is that I'm sleeping less cuz I'm worried about leaks, clogs, etc., and my stoma's a lot noisier all of a sudden. Don't know if it's related, but I was a sight trying to muffle the little noisemaker at work today! :)
