Finally changed my bag on my own!

So after being in the hospital for a couple of weeks I finally had to change my bag last night here at home. I had meant to do it yesterday (it was getting itchy and gross looking) but I decided to put if off one more day. Partly because I thought it would hold, and partly because I am still a little freaked out by my stoma and changing the bag. Anyway, the bag started to leak at 6am and so I was forced to do it. My fiance helped and we managed to get it done in 15 minutes or so. No biggie. Just like that. The bag works fine (so far) and I feel fine (knock on wood). So hooray I did it! Hehe, just felt like sharing.

Good for you!! It is rather freaky the first time. I remember being so grossed out if I accidentally touched my stoma--slimy! Very cool about your fiance helping, too.

Congrats! That really is a big step. I got all shaky the first few times. I'd say that you did it like a pro! Keep it up. Glad to hear that you are doing so well.

congrats on your bag change! it's so weird, but there is nothing like a leak to make the process easier. i did lots of bag changes, but it wasn't until i got a leak that i got alright with doing them. Big-time congratulations!

congratulations! when i first started changing my own bag, i thought i would pass out! lol now its no big deal, as a matter of fact i just got out of a shower, rinsing my stoma off feels so liberating ( no bag) and then changed it, and with these moldable flanges, theres no cutting so they go on like a piece of cake...not literally but u know what i mean lol

Well Done! It definately gives an ostomate a sense of empowerment when you can take care of your own changes. Helps us to feel more "normal" (whatever that is!) Congratulations!

Hey guys! Thanks for all your encouragement and praise! I'm sure I'll still feel a little wonky doing the next few changes, but I'll manage. I'm not scheduled yet, but I am having a reversal performed eventually. I'm glad that I had this experience though, knowing that if anything goes wrong with the reversal I already know how life with a bag will be like. Now if I could just get this infected j/p drain out of my butt... :p. It literally is a pain in the you know what!
