Total Colectomy (10 weeks ago)

Hello,

I am "busybee69 and I am a 38 year old woman.

This is my first time on "Healing Well".

 I had a (total colectomy) on 2-12-08.

I would like to chat with someone who has had this done, or know someone else who had it done.

I thought by now I would feel much better, but I don't. I have been doing to much around the house: like picking up boxes that may  be to heavy, I reach up and I felt something pull. 

If you know what I am going through or have any advise, I could use it. The pain right now is about an 7 if it's (1-10 and ten being the worst. I am debating if I need to call my doctor or not.  I don't want there to be something wrong.

Are you in pain most of the time or only when you work around the house? It might be that you are doingt oo much activity. Did you have surgery for ulcerative colitis, FAP, or chronic inertia?

I think your pain level is too high for week 10 so you might want to give your doctor a call. You should limit your lifting to 10lbs or less and might want to stop all together until you have the pain properly diagnosed.

Thanks for the response.

I just started hurting the other day. I really think I pulled a muscle, I picked up a box above my closet and I felt the pain then.

My doctor had to cut through a lot of muscle to get to the large bowel. I am still tender in at area but I haven't had pain like this for weeks.

I am going to call the doctor to be safe.

Hi Busybee 69, I had a total colectomy one year ago and just had 3 hernia surgery two weeks ago with small bowel obstruction. I sayy this due to the fact that I was only lifting around 21 pounds of my cat litter as the max and still managed to get hernias. I don't know how. I hope you call your doctor that is too much pain. Welcome to Healing Well! :-) I'm 37 and had a proctocolectomy in October 06. I hope you were able to see a doctor about the pain you've been experiencing. A level 7 out of 10 is pretty high. Please let us know what you find out. Good luck!

Thank you. 

I did go to the doctor today, he sent me for a CAT scan; with both contrast i v and the yuk drink.

Report no hernia that he could see , pulled the muscles he cut through during surgery.

Rest and don't lift anything for 2 weeks. I go back to see him May 5th.

 

I am sorry to here of your hernia's. Sounds really painful. Does the eating get any better?

 When I eat I have 10min.-2hours before it goes straight through. I hope you feel better soon!!! :-)

hi Busybee 69, I am so glad it is a pulled muscle, it was good you went. With my recovery from the colectomy it took a pretty long time before I felt really good again. A couple of months. I was easily tired. With this hernia repair and obstruction, I am more tired than the colectomy it seems and can't walk as much without getting so tired as I did with the colectomy. I don't know why. I am in pain today and was in pain all night and took the aleve. Well, I guess each day is different. I hope you are feeling better soon and thanks for your comments, it's nice to know your not talking to yourself!! enpointe

I am feeling better. 

Thank you for responding back to me.

Is there somethings you can eat and it stick with you longer than others?

I stay weak because my food don't stay with me long. 10 min. to 2 hrs, it depends on what I eat.
