Thank you everyone for your good wishes. ME thank you for offering to visit Mitzi in the hospital. She is so depressed and frustrated and in pain that it's even difficult for the family to visit. Will let you know if things change.
After being re-admitted last Friday (previous admission was for five weeks, for ulcerative colitis and then surgery), she is still being treated for the abscess. Today's CT scan shows some clearing of the original abscess, but now they see the beginning of something new so tomorrow they are starting yet another antibiotic, after blood tests show she can have it. The suffering with the pain of ulcerative colitis was bad enough, but now with all the complications, the invasive procedures, and the pain, we just want this to resolve. She still has a drain and it still is draining disgusting "stuff". The cause of all this is probably that the colon was so toxic before the surgery that it leaked bacteria into adjacent structures.
What do people without insurance do? Even with insurance, the co-pays are adding up faster than we can imagine!!!
