I'm so glad you're doing well now.  I just wondered what your sitz marker test showed, though?  Enemas have never worked for me; the food never makes it down far enough for an enema to work.  I have trouble with motility.  The only thing that works for me, and the only thing that has worked for me for over 25 years has been senna.  I've tried zelnorm, amitiza, miralax, you name it, I've tried it.  If enemas work for you, I think that's great.  For some of us though, the food never gets to the point where an enema helps.

The sitz markers showed that they did move. But they stopped when they got near my lower intestine. I guess I'm lucky in that my food makes it down a little further. My doctor explained it to me that the nerve ending at some part of my colon does not generate motility or cause contractions to move the food along. So I guess My food moves to a certain point and then it stops. I will say I have to fill up the bag quite a bit for it to work. When I first started to use them, I would buy the throw away kind at the drug store (fleet). After a couple of years of doing that, it didn't work because soometimes I would have to use two of them to work. So I bought the bag and hose. I have to fill it up which is about 3 X the amount the ones they sell in the drug store. about six inches of the tube is inserted. But it does the trick, and after a half hour I'm on my way. I do it everyday whether I feel like it or not. I used to wait until I felt backed up. But now, I incorporate it in my routine and I don't think about it anymore.

I know I haven't been on here in a long while but I did want to give an update to all that did help me in being able to talk to someone about my problems...I just wanted to give an update that I may have a light at the end of the tunnel.. 4 months after starr surgery and still having an extremely difficult time having a bm and all the rectal pain I am having my doctor wants me to do one more defecation study next Friday and then if he doesn't see that anything is going to change then he is going to do a colostomy because it is affecting my life too much-paise god!

Does anyone know if the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio has as good colorectal doctors as the Florida location?? I live closer to the Ohio Cleveland Clinic. Just wondering if anyone knew. Thanks! :-)

Hi KAP,

I have heard they do have really  good  docs there also. I know there are some people on this board who have gone there...Maybe you should make a seperate post w/that subject...I'm sure you will find people that go there..Good luck!!
