constipated and swollen again after dr. said I wouldn't

I think some CI sufferers have surgery only to discover their small intestine also doesn't function properly and they continue to have constipation.  Try to exercise to increase motility.  Simple walks will help move things along.  And then of course stay away from constipating-type foods and consume more fresh fruits and vegetables.

I,m sorry to hear that you are have some post-op problems...My daughter had the same thing happen to her...she had a TC on 6/5/08 and after 6 weeks in the hospital,we still had no results...she still could not go to the bathroom...we did more testing,and did find out that she did have problems w/ her small intestine and rectum...we ended  up going to an illeostomy on 7/9/08...it was the best thing we ever did!!! There have been some bumps in the road,but it is 1000% better than before...she has output in her bag,more than 3x a day!! That is the most poop she has ever had in her whole life!!!  Like sue has said people that have a TC because of colonic inertia,seem to have problems w/ small intestine also...Did they take your whole colon,or did they leave any? My daughter had 50% taken out last year,and then they had to go back in this year and take out the rest...If they left any ,that may be the problem...Call the drs ASAP...most people have really good results from a TC...Try not to be discouraged...I know that is hard...We don,t regrett having to go to the bag...it has given her a life that she has never had before..I will be praying...Keep us posted,and call your Dr....ask if you have any colon left?,and ask if they did testing on small intestine? Also your body may just be adjusting,it is a huge operation and can take months for your body to adjust...Stay positive !!!

I'm so sorry to hear about this. My friend Lori had the same surgery as you in early September and is having the exact problem as you - her small intestine seems to also have the inertia problem. She's in severe pain, but thankfully she is taking a muscle relaxer called Flexeril that has helped immensely with that. But she's still extremely bloated and has only  a little bowel movement every day, and it's not a complete one. I also have colonic inertia and am considering surgery, but am nervous about this problem as well. I remember someone mentioning a medication called Motilium that is supposed to be helpful for your problem, but for some reason it's not available in the U.S. anymore... that figures, doesn't it!!  Anyway, have you tried a product like Natural Calm  magnesium to try to move things along? My friend is going to try that as well.

Again, I really feel for you and know you must be extremely frustrated. I'm here to talk to if you need some support.
