Pneumonia and flu shots

  My sister thinks that I should get both a flu shot and a Pneumonia shot because she says my immune systuim has been through so much with all the surgarys and having ARDS.And the infection in my back (Discites that I am still on anti-biotics for this is my 11 week) in the last 8 1/2 months that she feels that my body would have a very bad time of fighting off anything I might pick up this winter.My question to you guys is have any of you ever had one and did you get sick from it and if so how bad.I have never got one and I know that it makes sence but more then half of the people that has ever talked to me about them it was because thay got sick after.It might be that mostly just the few that got sick from one are the only ones that bring it up but I thought I would ask all of you since are bodys are diffrent from most everyone elses.Hope to here from some of you on this subject soon. mom9mom

I get one free every year via work (it's cheaper to pay for employees to have a flu shot rather than pay sick pay when they're off work), and have never gotten sick from it. Even if work didn't pay for it, I'd pay for it myself.

I have gotten the flu/illness in the past. I work at a university and am in contact with students from all over the world (more in the past than in my current job), and have been pretty good as far as winter illnesses go without getting the shots.

2 years ago I got my first flu shot on the urging of my GI doctor. That year, whether coincidence or not, I got a doozy of a round of flu. Maybe it was just the 'strain' that year ... I don't know. I'm not sure that I will get another, we'll see.

I always get my flu shot and haven't ever had a problem with it. The first year after my ileo surgery I didn't get the shot and I got the flu. Its not a lot of fun trying to recoup from surgery and then get hit with a flu. When I get the flu I'm down for at least a week. I've gotten the flu shot every year since and haven't had the flu since. The flu shot only covers I think 4 types of flu.

Went to see my surgean yesterday but forgot to ask about the flu shot.He has decided that he is going to have to go in and fix my hernia (he wanted to wait 6 months)I have a spot that has got so thin that there is no mucle in between the intestin and the skin and the skin is getting thiner every day.He says that if he dos not fix it that it will wear a hole in the skin and intestin then I will have fecal matter leaking out of the skin and in to the skin then I would get infection in it.
