Koch Pouch - Any views out there?

Hi

I've had a jpouch for 6 years and now it has a hole and is infecting me so i have to have it taken down. My energy is very low so it is the only option if i want to feel normal again.

I amm going to have a Koch pouch built by the best colo-rectal surgeon in Scotland (Edinbugh), possibly the UK. He writes books and teaches other surgeons etc so i know i'm in good hands.

Was wondering if anyone out there had one or were contemplating one too? Do you have any opinions or experiences?

How is it to live with etc.

I noticed there was a blog already open but it has not been updated for yonks!

It's an option I'm keeping in mind in case my j-pouch ever malfunctions. From what I've heard and read it's fairly rare to find a surgeon who can do it. It sounds like a great thing, in theory, but I have no experience with it and don't know of anyone who does. I'm having my ileostomy reversed next month, so I'll probably ask my surgeon what he knows about it next time I see him.

Cheers Sponge...my guy wrote the books etc so feeling quite positive. he's called Bartolo, and works in Edinburgh. I assume you are living in the USA? There seem to be a few people that have had it in the states on this thing. Hope it all works out for you!

I have had a Koch pouch for 28 years and had it rebuilt twice. To be honest is a pain having to use the restroom so many times a day but it is better than the alternative. It has not been a hinderance in my life. I am very active--marathon runner (10), golfer and avid traveler. You can get used to and overcome anything. Best of luck.
