To Belt or Not to Belt (??)

with my end ileostomy, I never wore a belt but now I have a loop ileostomy that is a pain-in-the-neck so I wear a belt all the time. I am not positive but I think it is just necessary if you have a convex type stoma that requires a little extra support to push the wafer tight to the skin. I would prefer to not wear the belt because I guess I got spoiled with my 1st stoma because it was easy.

I used to only wear the belt when I went out, it kept the bag closer to my body (those little plastic tabs the belt hooks into always stuck out and I didn't like how it looked). Recently, I've had some problems with my skin under the wafer, so I have to cover them with stuff my stoma nurse gave me. The wafer doesn't stick quite as well and seems to come up on one side now, so I only take the belt off when I shower. I have a loop ileo and wear the Hollister 1 piece convex.

I only wore a belt when I was first home from surgery.  My stoma is close to my incision site and I couldn't seal that side, so I used the belt for some security. 

I do use a wafer with the most convexity you can get and I don't wear a belt now.  I haven't had a problem with it falling off or leaking..  Using a belt or not is one of those personal things...you have to be comfortable with your situation and no one is the same.
