Blood in mucous?? Scared!!

confused  just passed some blood (pink) in mucous that was discharged from rectum.  I had my loop ileostomy on Sept 23. This is first time there has been sign of any blood and it scared me.  Should I be concerned?  Has anyone else experienced this so far post op??? Thanks!! confused

I haven't had this yet, but if I were you I would call the dr. just to be sure. If nothing else, it will give you piece of mind.

I was just telling my husband the other day, it's sort of weird to have a butt and not use it! LOL! (I hope that made you smile!!) I can't wait till my reversal.

I hope everything is fine with you. Keep us posted with what you find out.

THIS IS TOTALLY NORMAL!! And don't be surprised if you pass a bowel movement too. The reason is you have a temp ostomy. The intestine is cut in half like a garden hose, one half sticks out of you (the ostomy) the other half diverts to your pouch/rectum. Seeing blood and mucus is a sign of healthy tissue. I don't understand why surgeons NEVER explain this!

Thank you so much for your replies!!  I was so stressed out about it.  This Forum is a wonderful place.  The doctors never ever tell us about the possibility of this happening!!  Thanks again!! :-)

Yea it's normal, I had a mucous stoma the large intestine that sticks out the skin the other end my butt (like Suebear said hose cut in half) my mucous stoma I wore a folded 4x4 with tape over it just below my right side of my rib cage and it would pass mucous daily eaither into the bandage or pass like a BM as your intestines still are alive and working and its part of the natural fluid that the intestines produce to help with the pooping in normal conditions.
My mucous stoma had blood sometimes but it wasn't often and it had some smell with it but it would clear up and go away.
