Total Colectomy 5 months ago. Always pain in Abdomen area. help?

I had a total colectomy about 5 months ago. Everything went great, and I dont regret doing it. However sometimes for no reason, and always after I eat, my abdomen and "guts" hurt for an hour, two or longer. It is just an aching feeling that leaves me doubled over. Is this common or should I be talking to the surgeon? I can handle going to the bathroom 12 times a day, I just dont want to be in pain the rest of my life. Oh... and it is always making digesting noises, they are so loud!!! People think its my stomach growling and they tell me to go eat. hahah!!

So do you all still hurt too?

HI,

From a nurses stand point I don't think that is normal and you should talk to your surgeon about and make sure he or she is at least aware its going on. I would think 5 months out it is not normal to be doubled over in pain.

I am going through the same thing (I am alost 5 months since my takedown)- my abdomen hurts every time I eat.  Especially if I eat too much.  My entire abdomen is just plain sore.  I have at least 20bms a day.  I know that I need to go see my surgeon, but I know that he will want to do a scope or make me drink that awful barium.  So, I just keep waiting on things getting better.

Sorry that I can't be of any help, but at least you know that you aren't alone!

have either of you gone to the doctors and if so what did they say... i had my total 3 weeks ago.. and one thing i lived with before surgery was cramping for hours after i ate..... i slowly see it starting... pending what i eat.. and how much i eat.....

 

and i have horribly weird intestinal noises too if i eat something that isnt going to digest well with me.. what is that all about.. its a horrible noice.. and i know what it means now.... and its only been three weeks... it means a lot of pottie runs are coming soon!!!! and im going to have a hard time digesting something....
