Need a little help after total colectomy

I know this is going to sound funny - but hopefully for those who have had a colectomy know what im talking about....

 

what can you use when your "hiney" feels like its so sore you couldnt go one more time.... feels like a million little cuts when i have to go. .and as we know sometimes we are going 15-20 times a day... what product can i use   sad

It sounds like you have fissures. They can be treated with nitroglycerine ointment which I think is an Rx.

Have you tried any OTC products? My surgeon gave me this cream called Magic Buttcream..seriously thats the name of it haha You should call your doc to see if he can write you a prescription for it :-) It's amazing!

Calmoseptine is OTC and works well. More than likely, your pharmacist will have to order it but it is still OTC.

thank you... i will look into these!!

i am guessing the desitin the surgeon said i might need... is not for this pro blem.... desitin is more for if you develop a rash...... not sure why she would of thought you;d need a rash medicine more than a hiney cream - do they know how many times we go to the bathroom...

i bought the desitin... but doesnt say on the tube thats what its use is for

I have an ileostomy, so I can't help you. BUT, I would try the desitin until you get something better. It can't hurt, right? Anything to calm the area down is a benefit. Years ago, before ileo, I got a RX for something that had lidocaine in it. Helped numb the area, but still very sore.

I know exactly how you feel, that's why since my surgery in July I've resorted to only using Preparation H wipes...never toilet paper...and always finish with A&D...I thought the ointment that they gave me in the hospital was the best but it didn't do the job so I have found that good old A&D works the best...not creme but ointment...even though I'm down to 3-8 bms a day I still continue with this routine because everytime I try to go back to toilet paper...I get VERY irritated...such is my new life...but it's SUCH a BETTER life:)
