So, you'd think after all the years that I have had my ileo, that I'd learn how to count and change it when I should, right?!   Welllll, NOOOOO!  I decided that I was in too big of a hurry yesterday morning to get to work.  (Been working a lot of hours at the university since the beginning of the semester last week. And leaving my house at 7:00 am -- just too early to do anything but try to get showered and dressed.)  Anyway, I decided to star marking my calendar beginning in January of this year so that there is never that guessing game for me.  I just can't remember.... wait for the itchies and then change it.  Anyway, I am up in the middle of the night cuz I ended up with a leak because I IGNORED my calendar yesterday.  A minor one but I hate being woke up that way!!!   I do sympathize with ya all.  It's just been a long time for me since I have had a "surprise"!!!  Serves me right!

Man, it just sux!!! Thank goodness I am a light sleeper, but I also have a hard time getting back to sleep. This one was my own fault. Laziness!!!!!

yep its almost always something dumb isnt it, lol. One time i ended up having to do that, cause i put the wrong bag on the flange!

Peggy,

I have the same problem with trying to remember when to change it so what I do now is write the date on the wafer.  That's just more easier for me to keep things moving smoothly.

Great idea RITAS! Now why haven't I thought of that one! I just don't have time to have to think about it. Isn't that funny? I know when I first had surgery many years ago, that is all that I thought about. Now I can't even remember to change it, unless I get the itchies, which I didn't yesterday or last night. I'm gonna start writing myself notes on my wafer..."change me on Tuesday!!!"

Peggy...

U've just gotten very used to it.  I've had mine since July 07 and I still can't get used to the idea and sometime cry when i change it.  Well let me make that clear.  When my husband helps me change it.  I still can't change it on my own.  So to put a smile on my face he'll write little notes on my wafer like.."I love u" or "ur my sunshine"...or "ur beautiful" just different things to keep my spirits up....Good luck!!

Someone once replied to a post that they changed theirs everyone Sunday and Wednesday.  I think it was Shaz.  So, I thought that was great advice.  I try to follow those days.  I pick two days a week and they are either Saturday or Sunday and Wednesday or Thursday.  Any combination of those days work well for me.  Easy to stick to as well.      turn

i either do sunday or monday and wednesday or thursday.
It used to always be Sunday and thursday, and that's what i usually do now, but i am a little.
There used to be a member on here who htought that the little stickers that used to come with the hollister bags to cover the filter in the shower or whatever were for writing the date you put the bag on! so that's what she did, which actually was pretty smart, lol.

I only have to change about every 7 days, but not 8 days!! I'm changing in the middle of the week now, but prefer to stay on a weekend schedule, like Sat or Sun. Since I have been leaving at 7 a.m. to go to work, the middle of the week makes a really early Wed morning for me.

I try to remember by marking "jilli" on my calendar on the refrig. Don't want to write, "changed the bag". I started out taking sharpy and writing the date on the tape part of the flange, but have fallen by the wayside.

I had a surprise the night before last for some unknown reason because I had just changed the day before. When I woke up in the middle of the night with a wet feeling, I just put a towel on it and left for another bedroom. My husband didn't even know the difference. Meeean nene.

this is a pretty gross story, but your towel story reminded me of. My cousin Josh married a close friend of mine, Erin. Well at her birthday party years and years ago, she got realy really realy drunk, and he kept telling her stop you are gonna sick over and over. Well she finallly actually literally passed out in bed. she woke up and threw up a few times and he got her a trash can and all, well he said, i told you you were gonna be sick and all, and he said, i am going upstairs to sleep. Well before he got up the stairs (this was like 430 in the morning) she threw up again, but she did it ALL OVER the bed! well she was still drunk way too drunk to get up and clean it up and he was so mad at her that he just put towels on there and on her and left her!
It was sooo disgusting for him to do that to her, but i kind of didnt' blame him, lol.

And on another note i am sitting here not leaerning cause i need to go empty this thing and this show is on that i want to finish watching.

Nah, wasn't me. I change whenever I feel the need - sometimes I should have changed sooner, but hey, that's the way the game goes :)  I'm too disorganised to have set days to change it, I'd be too lazy and think 'nah, it can wait another day' lol

I get two or three days if i'm lucky. I use Hollister moldables. I'm actually waiting for a new Hollister wafer box to come in to try. Hopefully it'll work

I use Convatec 2 piece with a convex insert in the wafer rim where the pouch snaps on.  I also use a small strip of an Eakin Seal that I cut and use as you would a band of stomahesive paste.  I do use a really mild adhesive remover when I take off the old wafer.  I use Neutrogena soap bar, unscented, with Viva paper towels.  The soap bar lasts forever it seems like.  I use 3 paper towels each time:  wash, rinse, and dry.

Total time ... maybe 10 minutes.

Sunday and Wednesday are easy to remember because those are church days-not that I go on Wednesday that much but it is one way to remember!

I can forget I have the bag on sometimes, too. Especially when I don't eat much and there is not a lot of poop to worry about.

Thanx so much. I was told that the convex inserts should be put on in place of the paste and then put the wafer on. Hmmm...now I'm confused. I ordered those to try as well. Wow, it really helps to talk to someone. Boy we learn a lot from eachother huh
