I am worried aagain as I am very hirsute - what about the stoma?

And my hair grows real fast - I must be part cro-magnon as I have a deep coat of at least 1/2 inch of body hair where there will be my stoma.  I have heard that shaving is imperative from a leaks perspective.  If I change 2-3 times a week, I guess I should shave then also.  Do I use a blad, or can I use the electric clippers?

Obviously a question for the men in the room, hopefully a bunch of hairy ones out there?

Not that you would want to hear this (especially from a girl!) but if you wax the area you will not have to shave with every change. Just a thought....

has anyone mentioned using a tp roll to protect your stoma? That way there is no risk of nicking it with the razor...

I wonder if Nair hair removal cream is safe to use around your stoma? Couldn't hurt to ask your doctor....This will let you easily wipe way your hair, and it won't come back for a few weeks.

Just a thought. I have used it before (not around my stoma), it smells bad, but definitely works! It is weird to see yourself just wiping hair away...!

I would definitely ask you doc, first, though--I would be concerned that the stoma might somehow absorb the chemicals, since it is part of your digestive tract.....

If you shave, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be careful around the stoma itself.  They bleed very easily.  I cut mine last week with the edge of my wafer (the hole was too small) and wow..I had two pouch fulls of blood.  It scared me half to death!!  Just take care my friend!...Cheryl

hey buddy!! my stoma nurse always insisted on shaving, but it irritated my skin. I got a facial electric clipper set (cuts closer then a head clipper) and i just run that over the area where the flange touches. Cost me about $5 for a cheapie which has lasted me about 2yrs and is stillworking.
