surgery clean out question

My clean out is nice and gentle but I wonder if I was given mis-information. I am to do clear liquids today Sunday and tomorrow Monday (surgery Tuesday) but do milk of magnesia TONIGHT Sunday night instead of Monday afternoon. Does that sound right?

It occurs to me that I've always done the drink (mag citrate) the exact day prior to the colonoscopy.

My D is constant and terrible so he went easy on me. But might the receptionist have been wrong?

probably not...I think you are having a proctocolectomy, right? Some doc's don't make you get "sparkly clean" since the colon is coming completely out. They just need things clean enough to get the ostomy done. The fact that you are on two days of clears will help a lot and your D is probably enough, too.

I was able to eat up until midnight the day before (i already had an ileo) and didn't have to do anything to clean out the small intestine:)

Wow, you are in the home stretch!! I will be thinking of you on Tuesday, please keep us posted as soon as you are able.

You might want to see if you can get hold of a doc on call to check. I was told by my surgeon that the clean out needed to be really good, so that there is not a risk of stool oozing out during the surgery to cause major problems, risk of infection, etc. Stinks, I know, because you are probably feeling so lousy, but better safe than sorry.

I was up all night running and am still doing a bit of running--several accidents today. Just liquid pouring out of the r-v fistula and the back end. Can you imagine if I'd done golytle? But I'm to check in at the hospital at 6:30am. It's all so surreal. I am so much better emotionally today than yesterday but who know about in a few hours. Just praying for successful surgery, strength to do what I need to do, and infections to stay away. THANKS to all of you.
