Here I go again. I have another blockage and I'm getting so frustrated! Either I don't eat much at all or I try to eat and I eat all the wrong things and end up with a blockage.  My stomach hurts, I've vomited twice and I'm miserable! I hope it goes away soon.  I had places to go and things to do today and here I am stuck on the couch with a heating pad again.  When will I ever get it right?

oh, sorry, i asked you on the other thread what do you feel when you have a blockage, so i see the answer here. does the surgeon usually give instructions about what to do when there's a blockage?? how to handle it??

She said to put a heating pad on my stomach and drink lots of fluids. If the pain gets worse and the blockage doesn't clear you have to be hospitalized. I've never had that happen yet, luckily they've always cleared on their own but sometimes it takes a while.

i hope it clears it self this time too, but pls, be careful and take care of yourself. well i know it's easy said than done..

I am sorry you are not feeling well. I hope the blockage clears, so that you can continue to do well. I think drinking fluids would help as well. I hope it clears because I would not want to hear that you are in the hospital again. I am praying for you to be well. I hope you feel better.

I'm so sorry. It seems like you keep having problems, you poor thing. I'm sure this is all temporary; one woman I talked to who had surgery said it took her a full year to settle down and stop having problems. What are you eating that makes you have blockages? Are you chewing your food well? She told me to be sure and chew chew chew after surgery.

It's probably not what you're eating, rather it's probably adhesions (they account for 90% of blockages, food just 10%) esp if you've had a few surgeries. See www.adhesions.org for more info.

Some home-remedies include: Relax (if you can through the pain!) - if you can tolerate wine, have a glass - it helps relax the intestinal muscles, massage your stomach, take a hot bath or shower - this will also help relax the muscles, take a dose of Milk of Magnesia, drink some hot tea. Some people find it beneficial to go down on all fours and position your self so that your bottom is stuck up in the air (an undignified position but apparently it does work ).

If none of the above work, then seek medical attention. Go to the doctor or to the ER department. A food blockage can become serious if left untreated.

I completely forgot about that position, Shaz!!! ( the all fours with your bum up in the air!!) Yes, though it does sound undignified, it does help ease the pain sometimes. Just stretching and using gravity to ease up the pressure I guess.

I agree with Shaz, these are probably caused by adhesions.  Walking also helps as it causes motility within the gut.  If you can't drink wine you can try grape juice.

Thanks so much for the advice; I have a hot tub and I'm wondering if that would help?

the blockages I get are usually from food. Its not a fun thing at all. My thing is that if I throw up then I go to the ER

wow i so know how you are feeling iv had the same thing for 9mnths hot water bottels iv even tryed jumping up and down to move it also try a massager on back this somtimes helps iv been to er nearly every month with this its so depreasing and draining and like you said here we go again its just never ending somtimes isnt it but you stay strong we are suvivers have to be mabey go to dr try get some help cos you cant keep puting up with it will be thinking of you specialy next time i get my hot water b out,,bex x take care
