How you concealing the poof?

Hey all you Cool Clubers!!!

I was just wondering what you did to hide the pooch.  I know many of you use panties, but I was wondering if anyone wore camisoles?

I'm wearing ones with and without the bra tops on a daily basis b/c they smooth the top of my pouch and give a cute little lacey addition to some outfits.  I make they are are slim fitting enough to do the trick.

I currently am getting mine at Wal-Mart b/c they're cheap, but does anyone else know of a good place to get them?  I find they only slim the top portion, which makes me feel comfortable with tighter tops.

Anyway, I was just curious about methods you guys may be using.

I am so stumped by this too! I'm only 5' 2" and the pouch is long. My nurse and I put it on slightly to the side which helps. But the stool is so watery that it gathers at the bottom. Even if it didn't, I'm wondering if I need to buy all empire waist and baby doll shirts???

I can't wait to hear what people have for answers on this one.

Sammies, tuck it up into your undies then it will go across evenly.
Robin, i like the tops from JcPenneys, they are tank tops, i think they are ANA brand, like 10 eahc, and they make your boobs look AWESOME, lol.
I dont usualy wear them to hide the pouch i dont have a problem with hiding it, even with shorter shirts. But they do come down to where they would hide it perfectly.

Tape the top of the pouch to your stomach and then it wont flop over your pants or the top of your undies and that will help alot!

I've had many months of taping gauze to my body for open wounds and I'm really not hot on the idea of doing it again.  wink

I like the tanks for smoothing my tummy and keeping the top of my accessory flat...my ileo lies either right at my waist line (for dress slacks)...and directly above for the majority of my jeans and other pants.  Therefore, the pouch is almost always divided in half.

I'm going to check out the tanks at Penny's.  Thanks!!!

I use the cami's from Aeropostale...they are long and I fold the bottom of it under my pouch which holds it even when it fills and flattens it all out...High cut panties are helpful to smooth out things.

Sammies, there are brands that have the option for shorter pouches, you may want to look through your catalog for them...my nurses had me try many sizes to see which one I liked better. As it turns out, the brand I like best only has one longer one with the velcro bottom, so I take the 'tail' and turn it up and put it under the 'fabric'...that holds it and makes it shorter.

thanks for the suggestions. I have so much watery output and gas that my pouch is always puffy. So I feel like I have this large lump to try to conceal whether I try to fold the pouch into my underwear or u. Does that sound about right for 3 weeks past surgery and Crohn's? When will I be able to flatten it out?

I will definitely call and ask for small bag samples. Any other ideas?

Robin--thanks for the idea of a tank top. Because of the weight loss, I have a very little chest. The tank top under a turtle neck was good for going out to lunch today and getting in a store. i've been wearing t shirts and sweatshirts.

I'm going to order a few long shirts so the bag can stay flat like it does under my t shirts. Any other ideas when folding the pouch doesn't seem to work?

I like to wear tops that are babydoll, umpire waisted, and ones that look good untucked. I'm more comfortable when I don't have to worry about a poofy pouch.

i use one of those bands too sometimes, i got mine at "Motherhood Maternity" in the mall.
Its especially good for wearing tight clothes, lol. I ususally only wear it when we are going out to clubs or something.

I had them put my stoma quite low, so the whole pouch fits under my pants, so the pants themselves smooth out the bag a lot. I also were smaller "midi" bags, because I didnt like how long the normal ones hung down.

Anyway, Anne Taylor has great camis that are stretch and very fitted. They are also high quality, so they will not stetch when you wash them. They are pricey, though...!

The truth is, nobody even notices the pouch but you. I remember when I first got my ileostomy, I thought everyone was going to notice it, as if they had x-ray vision or something! But, people look at your face when they talk to you and not your stomach. I had never really paid attention to that before, but that's what we do. We might glance at a person's body for a nano-second, but we focus in on their face.

So, I say dress the way you like to dress, and if you notice your pouch is getting a little poofy, then go to the bathroom empty it. :-)

Went to a family gathering yesterday. So I tried wearing a camisole--yay! It did help keep things in place and I was able to wear a shirt that wasn't baby doll. My jeans are so huge on me right now that I could conceal the pouch tail ok. I really can't fold it up b/c my output is still quite watery--I guess I'll be emptying often for "fashion sake." I was so excited to put on a shirt that wasn't a t shirt. And I put on some makeup too!

Also--I realized I'd been sitting at the table eating, talking, laughing---and I didn't need a break to lie down. And, most importantly, I didn't have to run to the bathroom. yahoo! :-)

sammie, they make gel tabs that will thicken your output in the bag, i use those whenever i go out, they make the output spread out better and lessen the noise. they do make it a little harder to get the stuff out, but its worth it to me. You can order them from yoru company.

So its common to lose weight...... not that Im complaining....I have plenty to lose lol. But I have lost 29 pounds since my surgery date of March 3rd. But Im really eating very little much to do will all my leakages, Im afraid to eat.

Well, kind of, I dont even know why Im in this state. I started with a fistula and something happened during that surgery and my colon stopped working. So he put the ileostomy to let things heal but he is going back in to see if he can find the problem. I was tested for crohns because my mother had it but I guess the tests came back with a little inflammation and that was it.

The truth of 'my' matter is that I'm just really starting to love my body.  I've only lost maybe 12-15lbs since my surgery, but I've not really ate healthy at all.  I've been loving the foods I've missed out on for so long.  However, being off the high dose of prednisone has really made the biggest difference. 

I'm just so happy to have my curves back (instead of the one big curve I was prior to surgery...really I looked like Violet from Willy Wonka). 

My accessory has become such a minimal part of my life, it's amazing!  However, during this blockage issue I did pull out some big loose maternity tops and super baggy things until that was over...whew!!! 

I'm glad you all have found ways to conceal your pouch.  I really love my bra-camisoles.  I wear them almost every day.  I'm going to try some of your ways once I've lost some more weight and am ready to wear my 'normal' form fitting clothes.  : )
