potty training???

has anyone on here potty trained a kid?  I have a 3 year old who we are trying to potty train (without much success) and obviously i am not much help with the pooping part!  (btw regular poop is really gross!  much grosser than what comes out of me!) 

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions?

LOL we let him pee outside already, twice now he has pooped on the front porch too! Not cool, lol

My thing is, my kid is so smart, he can multiply and spell, but cant figure out the toilet!
he's just so trifling about it!

Not sure if you are having issues with peeing or pooping or both. We used to let the boys pee on "tinkle targets" in the toilet. Originally they were little pieces of paper with a bullseye or a fish on them (my mom bought them). Then we switched to cheerios.
Pooping is another story. Oldest son would make me put on a pull-up so he could poop (peed in the toilet just fine). As soon as he was done with his business, he would ask me to change him. That only lasted about 2 weeks luckily.

I though youngest son was going to be the first child to prove the statement "don't worry, no child ever goes to college not potty trained" wrong. I could put him in underpants at 8 am and he would hold it until late at night. I would put diapers back on him and he would pee away. He was pushing 5 years old when he finally decided to use the toilet.

Summerstorm~ We are potty training our little boy who will be 3 on Friday.  It's been a rough go, but he will now tell me when he has to pee and will sit on the little potty (he wants absolutely nothing to do with the normal toilet) He does insist on holding hands though.  He used to just sit and scream at the top of his lungs and 45 minutes later he'd let his pee out.  It could become quite deafening in our echoy little bathroom.  As far as the pooping goes we have not made much progress.  I'm hoping to have him totally potty trained before we travel back east to visit family this July or before that next thing goes wrong with me and i'm back in the hospital.  He sees me empty my bag a lot but that doesn't help.  Big sister has offered to let him watch her go, but he doesn't really care about that either.  So he will hold it in for days, until he finally lets it out, usually while he's palying quieting in his room so no one can see.

As far as him ever standing and going, I'm sure it will happen someday, but now he shows no interest at all.  He won't even touch let alone hold himself down there and screams bloody murder if anyone else does.  Hmmm, we all know that will change:)

Hi Summer I've been doing this just lately with my son.  I was really worried as I don't go for either ends the way he does haha.  I really believe the children do it when they are ready as a few months ago there would have been no chance but now he's pretty much dry day and night. 

Having said that for the first time I went out today for the day stupidly without spare bottoms and he wee'd.  I went to town buying all the bits I brought a portable potty which is handy and also some bright bots off ebay though pricey are well worth it.  I used star charts too and made a big deal of any success and went the chocolate treat route even though I've always been against giving him sweets.  Maybe your little lad isn't quite ready but it can change in a matter of weeks so don't dispair it will happen soon.  Could books help? or making up a story you think he would like involving the toilet process? I could make you one up but I'm worn out tonight from my made up magic pixie stories he insists on 'and they all live happily ever after' haha.  I just need a way to get him to go on a proper toilet he will wee in it but no poo's so awkward for going out without a potty ah the joys of motherhood haha good luck!

Summer luckily he only made a small patch onto his jeans so I just took his pants off it was such a warm day and all the kids were muddy it didn't really matter.  Bright bots are like normal pants with a plastic bit between for small accidents I think thats just the make of them I'm sure you could buy others under training pants.  The magic pixie stories well I usually make them up according to what we've done in the day with a very obvious message on how Pixie is such a good boy if he does what he's told haha (my monkey doesn't). 

I was thinking when I got this ileostomy maybe it's not as gross to me as I'm used to changing really filthy nappies haha.
