oh, honey, i know it's all so frustrating. not only that we have to deal with health probs, but all of the bureaucracy.. is a real pain in the.... when someone suffers a health prob, the last thing he needs is to deal with all of this bureaucracy mess, believe me, i so know how you feel and how frustrating all of this can be, aaaaaaand the waiting is absolutely awful!! but please hang in there. the woman is right, they have to know exactly what is going on within the rectum in order to fit the most right treatment for you. the information they get from the defecography is very important, and w/o it they have no way of knowing how to treat you, so what you should first of all consentrate on is getting the defeco' and then move on to the next step. hang in there, be patient, start working on getting the defeco - be persistant about having it, o.k?

ih8u- This is all so frustrating isn't it!! I know for me, dealing with insurance has been very difficult at times. I have found myself in tears on the phonoe with them, and even at the doctor's office one time. The secretary told me that my insurance was cancelled and so they couldn't see me that day. I lost it. In reality, the insurance company had sold several of the policies to a different company but neglected to tell me or the doctor about it. The best part was, if you called the company (old one) they would just say they had no record of that patient, instead of "oh yes, we switched companies, let me help you". Very frustrating.
I hope your insurance approves you quickly. Is there another hospital that you can get the defecography done at that will be quicker, and then just bring the results with you to the biofeedback doctor?

an update so far...

it seems the test i had done wasn't a defecography. they gave me a dynamic pelvic mri with and without contrast instead. i was lying down and i had to push out clay... and squeeze in. they didn't really find anything wrong according to the radiologist. said it was "mild." there was something that was 4.5-5 and that's at the higher end of average but for some stupid reason i forgot to ask for a copy of the report at my GI. i usually always ask. mind got too preoccupied i guess. couldn't get through to the biofeedback place so i have to try after finals tomorrow. also... i mentioned to the radiologist that i felt like i had pushed out all the clay only to realize after i stood up thar there's still something in there it and i couldn't get the rest of it out.

hey there, i'm so glad you managed to have the defeco test. you're not giving enough details, maybe you should ask your dr to explain it to you more thoroughly.

anyways, if you feel a significant presence of matirial still in the rectum, then you have an incomplete evacuation, the question is why it's incomplete.. if it's a rectocele and it's big enough, like maybe 3 cm and on, then maybe your dr will recomend a rectocele repair, if it's prolaplse or any other kind of an anatomical prob, so again, if it's sifnificant enough, it can be repaired w/ a simple procedure, but if it's anismus, which is a functional prob, only biofeedback can help w/ that, or bottox injections.

so now you can get on to that biofeedback, i'm sure they'll take you, i mean the only prob last time was b/c you didn't have the defeco test, right? so now that you finally have it, there's no reason why they won't take you. didn't your dr talk to you about biofeedback or anything else to treat you prob? what did he say your next step is?

the radiologist noted there wasn't any prolapse. something was 4.5-5 cm though, but was considered normal. i googled searched it and i think that was the measurement for whether or not i have a prolapse or not. the radiologist wrote in the report that my pelvic floor problem was only 'mild,' which makes me wonder if the biofeedback place will take me.

the test i had done wasn't actually a defecography. it was a dynamic pelvic mri with and without contrast. i did not defecate barium into a special toilet. i had to push out while i was lying down on the mri table. the radiologist even said that this test wouldn't fully tell whether or not i have a prolapse or rectocele.

my bad, i asked for a copy of the report today. it noted a lot more things than i thought. i feel like a ***** for *****ing lol :X



the thing with insurance is still not definite. i thought it was, but then the receptionist at the GI doctor called the biofeedback place and they said they weren't sure and we have to call back later. i hate it when i get conflicting information about insurance. also, because my case is only 'mild' i wonder if my insurance will authorize it or if the place will take me. i'm going to call either tomorrow or monday.

i've heard of this dinamic mri for the pelvic floor, it's an addvanced test and only started to be performed lately. i'm not sure if they've started to perform it here, in israel, but they've been talking about it. this test is supposed to be a much better test that includes all the 3 tests - defecography, manometry and preanal u.s. so that way they save the time, the hassle and effort for both the pts and drs. you were lucky to have it.

anyway, about your questions.. the test is only another tool for the dr to help him get a more complete picture of what's going on, but what's more important is what you say you feel, so even though the test shows a mild prob, the drs are supposed to lean mostly on the pt's complaints and not the test's results. if you say that this thing takes over your life and doesn't enable you to have a normal life, then they are supposed to listen and let you try the biofeedback.
