My son is new to a bag (three weeks in) and until he finally gets the pouch in Nov or Dec, he seems to be having a hard time about showering. He says the bag comes loose when it is in contact with the water. Any secrets or tricks anyone can share? Thanks

I've never had a problem, I shower 5-7 days a week. After I get out I dry the flange area with a blowdryer, but a lot of people don't. If there are areas on the flange that are lifted up a bit, I put some 3m medipore tape over those areas before going into the shower, but I'm unsure if this is actually necessary. Maybe he needs to try a different brand or different flange/bag setup that conforms to the body better?

He could try glad "press 'n' fit" plastic too. Put a sheet over the bag area and it when you press it sticks to the skin. I found it cumbersome, but it might work for him

Is he still using skin preps? If he is thats why the bag is coming up.
Or like Matt said, if the edges are already lifted up.

Does the bandaid part come up only, or the whole thing?
If its just the bandaid part lifting a tiny bit, thats not a big deal he can just tape that back down.

He may want to look into the sure seals, they are like thesse saran wrap type things that go over the flange, kind of hard to explain, but they keep water off of them. You can get them at edgepark

I place a ziplock bag over the whole thing and tape it down with waterproof tape. The water just cascades off. If it gets too wet I use a blow dryer. Good luck!

I haven't had any problems showering or swimming with the wafers I use (Coloplast item #2833), but I have heard that some people like to use Glad Press 'n Seal over their wafers to keep them dry while showering. Good luck!

i use the glad press and seal too, just tape it on top. still get's a little wet but not too bad, then just let air dry or blow dry if i'm in a hurry! sometimes i don't use anything to cover it, like when i take a bath. i think it does decrease the wear time for me, but oh well. the baths are worth it!

I am neurotic about this - I put on the sure seal available at edgepark, and then I use glad press and seal around the whole area - then I use a spongebath around the area closer to the bag. 

I admit this is the toughest thing right now for me - beside some backside pain.

I don't use anything - no press 'n seal, no sure seal, nothing.  I do towel the area dry around the edges of the flange and the back side of the bag... then go around the area once or twice realy quick with the blow dryer as I am blow drying my hair.  I get about 7 days wear time with Convatec Sur-Fit system.  I do not use any skin prep or powders.  I do use Eakin Seals and a convex insert in the wafer.

Bob-when i first got my bag i was really OCD about washing it too, but the longer i had it the more relaxed i got about that.
