Hey,

So i'm new to the ostomy stuff, quite new in fact, just had surgery about two weeks ago for the ileostomy. Anyway, i plan on flying to Denver in two weeks and i heard from an ostomy friend that when you go up in planes your bag expands. Also, denver is higher than where i live.
I was wondering if anyone had any incite into this, if it's true and whatnot.

I don't think that's true. Passenger compartments are pressurized.

if it does i doubt its enough to make a difference.
What i would do if i were ever going to fly (which im not, lol) is empty right before i got on and take some immodium so i wouldnt have much output.

I flew this year, in a non pressurized airplane, without any problems, with an ileostomy. When you fly though, cut your pouches ahead of time, or plan on packing your scissors in your checked bag.

I fly everywhere. Never once had an issue with bags expanding. Only once (and this was MINOR) when waiting in line FOREVER and filled up and the security guy asked me what I had 'in there' because I was kinda lumpy and it was Arizona, and I told him "one of your Breakfast Burritos" rubbed my tummy ... no other questions asked ...

make sure you don't pack your supplies, in your checked luggage, in case your bags (no pun intended!!!hehe) get lost shocked

I, too, have flown several times, from IN to HI direct last summer and no problems. Hate those airplanes, so called, "loo". They suck! I sure didn't eat much before I left just cause it was gonna be a long flight and I didn't want to deal with the space confines. I slept most of the flight anyway.

I've flown heaps of times. The rumour that your ostomy bag will blow up is exactly that... a rumour! I ate and drank as normal. The cabin is pressurised. The loos are small and thus, a little challenging, but they're manageable.

Make sure you pack at least two changes of appliances in your carry on luggage (pre-cut everything, no scissors) just in case you end up in Denver but your luggage ends up in Singapore!

I hate flying, but do it often enough.  No probs yet, like everyone else said it's just a rumour, and precut a few flanges to keep on your person 'cause your sissors need to be checked....sometimes security wants to see the bag, sometimes they don't, sometimes they don't even notice
