Hi guys-
I am pretty sure I have an allergic reaction to the paper tape on the wafer and not a fungal rash. For the past several days I have using a Versiva absorbent pad cut to the stoma, an eakin seal with the wafer taped to the pad. THe area under the pad is better but since I have to tape the pad to my skin - that area is irritated. But the area around the stoma and under the pad is getting better. So I took Diflucan for 7 days -
Seeing the doctor and nurse today- I was supposed to have step 2 surgery tomorrow but doctor has to decide if he still wants to do it because of rash. - with step 2 I will get my jpouch created and a new stoma- may have to reschedule which sucks....
anyway- hope this all makes sense-
Anyone have ideas for hypoallergenic products- tape, or other ideas for really sensitive skin. I have read about
HY-tape and Karaya products. Are these good for allergic skin?
Thanks....

There is something out there for sensitive skin...I cannot think of it right now:( Try going to www.UOAA.com and look at the suppliers page...that might help. Let us know if you find anything:)

J,
there is a wafer without the tape. I think Hollister makes it. I left some with Helen, see if she can give one to you
Or you can call Hollister and they'll send you out a couple of samples !!!

Just cut off the paper if that's what causing the rash. The wafer will still stick (most wafers don't even have it anyway).
Good luck :)

Thanks guys- exuckp I wll check with Helen.
Shaz- I will be able to do everything with just the wafer being there??? will I need a belt or something else?
I am seeing the nurse today since I am in the hospital she is coming to me and she is showimg me some options. My rash is better and I now have a running weird loop ileostomy which looks really different from the end ileostomy I had..
Thanks...

See if you can get some samples of Coloplast's Sensura Flex. There is no actual tape, it's more like a plastic film that is removed, and the wafer is flexible and rubbery. I have found it to be very comfortable, and the wear time is great. It also dries really quickly after a shower.
