Calmoseptine...desperate attempt! Plus, hernia question.

Well, I'm dealing with bad skin irritation, so wondering more about the Eakin seal, I called Convatec since I already use most their products. I figured they manufacture this stuff, so maybe I'm missing something. The call was great. Of course now it seems I need a few more products but I have pretty darn good insurance for ostomy car so I'm not too worried. She is also sending me a patient starter kit with everything we talked about and a few other goodies to try.

So, here is my question. I feel like that's all I am right now...full of questions. I have BAD break-out around my stoma about 1/4" away from the stoma. It's blistery looking. After looking everywhere for my stoma paste (I change in 2 bathrooms, well 3 - 1 upstairs, 1 downstairs and then 1 at work) and not being able to find the paste and feeling it itching and burning, I took my wafer off (this is wafer #2 today) and could tell how badly it was broken down. Deciding I needed to put SOME sort of skin barrier on there...I decided to use calmoseptine. It's basically like super baby rash skin barrier, but more for adults. Whenever I had BAD fistulas and abscesses and drainage and was RAW, I would put it on and the next day I would be nearly clear. I'm not kidding..at one point I wasn't able to sit on a pillow on a soft chair, the next day after religious use of calmoseptine? I could sit on a chair with no pillow. So, Anyway, do you think this is bad? I just needed a barrier and I had no paste. I left enough around the outer edge so the wafer is actually touching my skin, but I was desperate.

Also, hernias... do you get them around the stoma? I think I might have a small one now. Not sure what I did. It feels sort of solid around the stoma area. Maybe it's just all the irritation affecting the the area? I'm worried I may have lifted something too heavy... I knew that might be a downfall for me.

Cecilia - the burning is GONE today....I'm thinking about leaving this wafer on until morning and then changing it again, that'll be about 36 hours. I know with irritation you need to change more often.

I'm getting samples of Eakin seals and then I'll probably order those. Right now I just ordered the wipes. I have also started just using wet paper towels to clean it up...seems the cottonelle wipes I use when I'm not changing my wafer may be causing some issues.

I haven't called my surgeon or my nurse about it. I think, honest to goodness, the calmoseptine did it again! So, if it's not any better by Monday, then I suppose I need to call and get it situated.
