Hello everyone, I am new to this board. I have a colostomy. I had surgery on June 13th and the procedure is reversible. I am looking for some suggestions on pouches and such. I know that everyone is different but would like to know the pros and cons of what people have found.

Since my surgery I have been using the hollister 2 peice drainable pouch. I was using an eakin seal with it. Recently I have developed a rash and they do not know if it is an allergic reaction or a fungal rash. The nurses today told me to switch from Hollister to others to see if it clears up. I was sent loads of samples but sadly I did not keep them. Hollister was working great and I also changed sizes from what I was sent. So now I am looking to try new things.

Today I have on a Coloplast, I think it is a sensura flex. It is a low profile syste,. After having the locking ring with the Hollister I wonder how secure this is? Also if it causes more pancaking?

I would appreciate any advice people have on systems they have tried and found success with

Hi Jacalyn,

I have a temp ileostomy, and I use Coloplast SenSura one-piece. The opening at the bottom is secured with velcro, and it has never leaked. This is the same kind that the hospital sent me home with and my at-home ostomy nurse continued me with, so I've never tried anything different. But why try something else when this one is working great for me?

I have been wearing the Sensura flex 2 piece for six months after switching from a hollister, and have never looked back. I love it. The adhesive is very sturdy, I have never had a leakage issue. I use the adapt ring, which is similar to an eakin, and my wafer is convex. Not sure what you mean by pancaking...

Thank you both for replying it seems you both use Coloplast. I think they are the same as what I am using now but mine is a 2 piece. It is a little difffernt but I have been wearing it two days and so far it is okay

The issue I see so far is that the adhesive part does not fully stay on my skin, it seems part of the edges dont lat flat.

What is the seal that you mention? Is it like Eakin you use it on your skin instead of using paste?

Does anyone on this board have any other comments on the Coloplast or use Convatex?

I use Hollister New Image, so I can't help you with other products.  I use convex barriers and rings.  One other thing I use is a skin cement called Osto-Bond.  I put it both on the barrier and my skin and hold it for a couple minutes.  It comes in a can with a  brush attached to the lid.  One warning, though, is it does contain latex, so if you're allergic to latex, it won't work for you.  It comes off really easy when it's time to  change.  I'm having much better luck with no leakage since I started using this.
