I just went to empty my bag (3 weeks post op) and I noticed there is a red/bloody tinged output that continues to come out! The only thing I can think of is that I had red fruit punch gatorade this morning. could this be it? i also had peanut better and strawberry jam last night for dinner. i'm really scared. should i be worried or could it be the gatorade???

Very possibly, I drink a red sports drink and this turns my output red too...

probaby the gatorade, or even the jelly
it doesnt take much red to turn it colors. Even the little bit of red in my cough syrup turns it. Also remember that purple and orange have red dye.

Too funny. For the last week or so I have had very red output in my stool. I was thinking the same thing. Is it blood, or is it the Red Gatorade. I think its the gatorade. I dont have any pain whatsover.

I drink a lot of the Crystal Lite type drinks and the red ones really affect the color of the output. Purple and blue do, too, but not like the red.

Yeah i take cough syrup at night sometimes, and since i have nothing else in my stomach, what little does come out, is bright red, lol.
Blue stuff like alot of blue food coloring, smells horrible when it comes out, and is like this freaky green color, lol.

Yep, the first really big freakout I had was after drinking red Gatorade. I thought I was dying. Had my husband call the doctor and tell him I was bleeding in the bag. Later, I realized that it was the red Gatorade. Did I feel silly.

I had a similar experience a few weeks after my surgery after eating a ton of red jello. I was almost positive I was dying or something, but then I remembered my WOCN telling me that eating beets would turn your output red, and I just assumed red jello would give the same result. The next day everything was back to normal.
Also, blue gatorade produces very interesting output colors.

Try raspberry sherbert, the output colors are bright green! Glad you are OK. Rose

I was pink all afternoon yesterday from a raspberry pop tart. Also, I've had skin break down around the stoma and sometimes it leaks into the bag. cathy

BEETROOT WILL SEND YOUR POO RED. I NEARLY FEINTED WHEN IT HAPPENED TO ME. AND I REALIZED about
3 HOURS LATER WHAT IT WAS. YES, ANYTHING LIKE THAT WITH AN INTENSE RED COLOR WILL BE THE SAME.

Hoping someone can answer this for me! I had the 1st of the JPouch surgery done on 4/23 and am wearing the illeostomy bag now.
I have not had anything to eat or drink that would make the stool appear red and yet I'm having some real blood coming out. At this point it's not alot however it's very apparent.
Has anyone had this? Do you know why and should I be concerned? Thanx for the help!
