Derrier' leakage after Ileostomy

The one thing I haven't been really able to deal with well is the -essence- which comes out of my derrier' .. which seems at times to be uncontrollable. When I had my surgery 2 years ago, I expected everything that used to come out of there to be routed to the bag..

However, that's not quite true.. Is there a 'good' way to deal with it or is there some way to control it?

I had leakage even actual "movements" for six months during the time I had the ileostomy. I actually think it has helped to make my takedown easier. I

It sounds as if you still have your anus and have not had that sewn shut? Are you expecting further surgery, is what you are living with temporary?

Yes, it's a temporary. Been putting off going back in the hospital for the past 2 years for the J-Pouch activation. Now that I have things "stable" in my life after a year of unending diarrhea, 3 surgeries and essentially losing a year of income. I really am not anxious to go back in the hospital.

Also, I am not really excited about having to "adjust" to the J-pouch. My life had enough adjustments to make dealing with UC; dehydration; steroids and everything else. I suspect i'm about as normal as I'm going to be now.. Is the pouch any better than the bag?

I had surgery the end of June and my ileo is permanent. For the first 2 months or so I kind of a mucous type discharge and then it stopped. Now I feel like I need to go most all the time I have a rectum but nothing ever comes out of it. It just feels like I need to be on the toilet but I'm just getting used to it.

Wade,

The jpouch has been great for me!  Coming up on our 9 year anniversary together.  I do 100-200 mile international hikes, travel abroad, backpack, etc.  I encourage you to visit www.j-pouch.org for support and advice on your reversal.  It will be an adaption but the worst is behind you!

Hi Wade,

At first a lot of mucous came out of my rectum because I still have my colon and a permanent ileostomy. As time goes on my colon hardly produces any mucous now (2+ years). Mine is an end ileostomy.

If yours is a loop ileostomy there is a complication I've heard of where some actual poop slides back down the wrong end of the loop and goes through the colon to the rectum. Check with your doc to be sure this isn't happening. It's likely just mucous you are passing rectally.

i had my loop ileostomy for 2 months now and my reversal is next week but the whole 2 months, about everytime i sit down to empty the bag, i actually have the urge to push like a regular bm and clear/white stuff comes out of my anus..not smelly at all, the nurse said it is the stuff my intestines make to help with digestion and it doesnt hurt or smell, its kinda cool and interesting acutally, i am going for my pouchogram tomorrow, they will give me an enema of barium type stuff and take an xray and make sure the pouch has no leaks, its kinda cool cause i dont have any prep, since all my poop goes in the bag..ahh what an interesting/exciting time in my life lol
