Cymed Products the best kept secret? Or what?

Just wondering if anyone on here uses Cymed products? What are your opinions on them? Do they last? Do they leak?

I called the company after getting help on here and they were wonderful about sending me some products to try. I put on the one piece appliance they sent and I COULD HARDLY TELL IT WAS ON!! So light and flexible. Not like the tupperware lids I've been trying. I wore it through a spinning class, walking and a swim workout in three days. Finally on the fourth day I saw it was leaking by the stoma and still it has this thin skin around flange that kept it all from leaking out. I think I like it other than it's one piece and they don't really recommend their two piece for ileostomy people.

I went to see if the store where I buy my supplies would order it in for me and she tried very hard to talk me out of it. SHe ended up giving me two samples of the 2 piece and telling me to try them and think about it longer.

So far 2 days, the 2 piece has been fine but will swim tomorrow and see what happens.

I was hoping to use a combination of Cymed and Hollister but the subsidy rules here in Alberta don't like that idea. I know after 3 months I should be settled but I am not yet. I need to find my dream product. Is there one?

Love to here others people's ideas.

Trigirl~glad to hear the samples worked out!!! That is amazing that you were able to carry on your 'normal' activities and not have any issues :-) and just remember that 3-4 days wear time is normal. Some people do get up to a week, but not everyone can. I don't mind my 3-5 days wear time, I just plan for it! AND...there is no 'time frame' on finding the product that works for you...we are all different and our lifestyles and bodies make us that way...don't put so much pressure on yourself!

I've got a funky shaped stomach and cannot do without deep convexity, so I am not a candidate for Cymed sad

Did the store give you any reason why they were talking you out of Cymed? Can you just order your supplies online or do you have to go to a store in Canada?

My opinion would be to use the one that works for YOU and don't worry about what the store thinks...my guess is they are not an ostomate!

I just wanted to hear what other people wear and what they like or don't like about various appliances.

Like bag size, closing preferences. "Stick to it ness." Color. Whatever. I know one thing, I wish they all didn't come up so high above stoma. Know what I mean?

Also wanted to say thanks for the info. I'm going to give these a try since I haven't been too thrilled with my convatec products. I'm really anxious to get back to a more active lifestyle, but I've been afraid to run or lift weights with my current system. I'm really tired of looking at my pouch the day after I applied it and seeing that the band-aid part of it is coming off and the rest of the adhesive is starting to peel as well. Right now the only thing keeping me from leaking are the eakin seals I wear.

I definitely know what you mean about bags going too high above the stoma. I wish someone would make a pouch that maybe only went half an inch above it. The system I wear now seems to extend about 2 inches upward and that part seems pretty unnecessary since no stool ever goes there.

I think they are the worst products. I couldn't TRY them out, b/c i could never get a hold of anyone at the company, at that time.
So, I bought some and they are sooo horrible. They don't last a couple of Hours for me, let alone days! I thought they were so comfy too, but they leaked all the time. I wasted my money. :(
I learned, that they were designed mostly for colostomies, so they can't withstand the liquid output of the ileostomy.

I'm truly surprised that you had such luck with them.

I don't think there is a perfect product. I wish you could mix them.

I really like the coloplast wafer with the hollister bag (they are smaller)

I love the way Cymed products feel b/c I need something low profile while I teach spinning. Unfortunately for me, they leaked after 3-4 hours. If I could have gotten themn to last 2 days or more, I would have used them exclusively. The fact that yours lasted 4 days is AWESOME!
