Gosh this forum is busy. I have not been on in weeks and have been trying to catch up with everyone.
Leslie I think it was you that was asking about nausea. I had my total colectomy on October 26, 2009. I had emergency open surgery on November 17, 2009 for infection. I get nauseated daily and it comes on without warning. I will be perfectly fine one minute and the next I am about to puke. I take zofran and phenegran. I am usually better within about 30 minutes of taking the meds. I am basically learning to live with it.
I am doing very well and go back to work Monday. I have really made a lot of progress in the last 3 weeks. I have gained 11 pounds and feel so much better despite the bouts of nausea. My life is way better now without a colon even with all the complications. I went to the GI doc today and he was so happy with the way I looked he just hugged me and said he couldn't believe how much better I was doing. For those contemplating surgery it is scary but has really made things better. For those of you who have recently had surgery and feel like you will never get better you just need to keep the faith. Just 6 weeks ago I thought that I would never get better and was thinking I might have made a mistake. Then things just started to click, I got more energy, I quit throwing up, and just felt better. I can deal with the little bouts with nausea as long as zofran keeps working.
I know many have posted that they still have constipation issues. I also have to take one dose of Miralax a day sometimes every other day. I have had two small bowel follow throughs which showed that my small intestine is now also affected with slow motility. Things are still way better than before surgery. I can eat without blowing up like a toad and dont have to take handfuls of stimulant laxatives. Surgery is a huge thing but if all tests point to colonic inertia I truly believe surgery is the best answer.
Lizzie I am worried about you. I hope you have gotten some answers by now.
Hodaya I am so sorry you are having so many problems. I am sure you are frustrated with the doctors. I hope they can figure something out for you soon.
To everyone else even though I haven't been on here in awhile I still think about you gals daily and you are all in my prayers. I am going to try to get on here more often just been busy now that I am feeling better. Little League baseball and softball has started and my crazy husband is coaching my daughters softball team and my sons baseball team. This means we will be living at the ballpark which makes computer time more difficult.
Thinking of you all. Someone asked where I lived in NC can't remember who and am afraid to try to look it up while typing a post. It is so easy to lose a post here. Anyway I live in Mocksville, NC. It is about 30 minutes west of Winston-Salem.
