i know its probably not the best thing to do and it may put pressure on people, but how many people have kept the fact they've got a bag a secret?

i have to admit that only my very close family know ive got the bag, as i dont want all my mates and work colleagues knowing and i think to myself its only for a few months.

i know most of you will think that i should just come out and say and that my true friends will be supportve and understand, but i just cant.

i use a covering belt just incase ppl can see it through my clothes.

any1 else playing hide and seek?

Hi there.

I think sometimes it depends on how much of a problem the stoma and bag is for the individuel.

For me,I don't care who knows. Not that I would anounce it in the middle of the high street or anything lol,but I am comfortable with my ostomy because it never causes me excessive problems such as gas,and I have only ever had one leak from the bag.I am also wearing the same types of clothes that I was wearing before. For someone that is battling with that sort of thing continuly, then maybe they would more than likely not want others to know. Just my take on it realy. Everyone is different and we deal with things in different ways. If you don't want to tell people, then unless you realy have to then don't. It's how you feel about things that is important.

I don't tell people either. My close friends know and so does all my family. But I haven't told anyone else. But, I have a feeling a few people form work know, as they know I've been sick and they know I disappeared for quite awhile (for surgery). I'm sure it'll all come out eventually.

Be aware this thread started in 2004.

Please don't bring up older threads like this. It's much better to start a new thread on your chosen topic otherwise people don't realise that they're responding to people who probably left the board years ago.

Yer sorry I didn't realise there was a rule for this forum that stated that we weren't aloud to comment on old topics. Although this topic is still very relevant if you ask me, especially for new ostomates or people thinking of going into surgery. But don't worry, next time I'll just waste space by creating a new topic even though there is a perfectly fine working topic already created that some people have already expressed their opinions on.
