How many times do you those of you with a J pouch have to go to the bathroom? Is leaking common? Will I still be always looking for a bathroom if I have this surgery? What should I expect?

I haven't needed to now the map of bathrooms since I gave up my colon. There is no urgency with a jpouch and no, you don't live in the bathroom. I got 6-8 times per day, most of those are when I go with the intention of urinating.

My son who is 4 months post his reversal (J pouch is working) as about 4-6 BMs a day. Some nights he sleeps right through and sometimes is up once during the night. The only meds is takes are ~2 imodium in the evening. He had a little leakage the first few days in the hospital, when the output was very watery, but nothing since coming home. He has absolutely no urgency or discomfort...he can easily wait 30 mins or so after getting the feeling that he has to go and that is getting better all the time. His J pouch has completely given him his life back.

  Are you haveing a total colecotmy with J-Pouch...?  Just like the others say, in the hospital you vomit, you pooo, very watery in the beginning.  Never had a accident at home ...Living life so much better now.  Getting ready to leave for Calif, for 16 days,  as long as I know where the bathrooms are everywhere I go I am good.  Cuz sometimes you have to run to get to the bathroom, but not too often.  When is your surgery and what kind?

I have a consultation with a surgeon on July 15. Going to talk about J pouch. Not sure if I will go through with it. Nervous. Just tired of uc. NO meds seem to work. I'm tired of hurting and having to go all the time and not being able to enjoy life.

  Are you talking about getting a appliance?  I have a internal J-pouch.  Go see the surgeon, and talk to him.  Ask about all your options you don't have to make a commitment on that day.  But if you are like most of us...after trying everything under the sun and you just keep getting sicker...then you know its time...its time to do the unthinkable....just so you can be better.  I was at the end of my rope mentally, physically, and in every other way.  I had no life, could not go anywhere cuz of being so ill.  So take a deep breath, and just go talk to him..
