I know it's worriesome as I have been feeling the same way. Mine is (as my doctor promised) slowly getting better. Here are some tips about what is happening, along with a few things I'm doing that are helping:
First, remember your intestines are having to re-learn how to function, and what they are suppose to do with this "stuff" coming through them. Most importantly they've forgotten they are suppose to absorb excess water from your stool, which is a big part of the diarrhea. You have help them in the meantime with these tricks:
Metamucil (not FiberOne, Citracel, ect., but Metamucil) - Metamucil is the only one that contains psyllium fiber, which acts as a sponge to soak up excess water. Directions say 3 times per day, my doctor told me I can go up to 6 if I want.
Ghar (sp?) gum fiber capsules - like Metamucil, this type of fiber thickens and gets gummy in the intestine, helpings to slow movement. This can also be taken 3 times per day.
Immodium (not Lomotil) - this slows the contractions in the intestines which are what force the food through fast. My doctor told me to take 3-4 capsules every four hours. Between adding the fiber that soaks up the water and using immodium which slows the contracting and pushing through of food, there is a good bit of relief.
Lastly, TIME. Time has to pass and healing has to happen. I continue to 3-4 months will have to pass before i start feeling confident and somewhat normal, and up to a year to truly be like others. But in the five weeks since my surgery I've slowed from about 45 movements in a 24 hour period (literally every 15-20 minutes) to about 10 per day, which all now happen in two 2-3 hour periods each day (about 5 times each time over a 2-3 hour period). My doctor assured me I can't overdose on these things as they too are all passing through me and out; they are just slowing things down. I'd start out with less dosages of each, play with them and figure out what works for you. I keep a long of all meds, time I took them, what I ate, and how I do each day. This has helped me establish a pattern. I'm taking something every hour in the morning, and gradually move to every 2 hours in the afternoon/early evening. But there is improvement! I too was beginning to wonder "what have I done" but I'm not feeling that way now. Good luck and hang in there.
