Gas coming from the wrong end!

I had a Colostomy done on June 11,20010 due to Perforated Diverticulitis. For the last few days now, I feel like I have the urge to poop, and can feel something going on down there! I have actually passed gas about 5 times now, and can feel it working, like it wants to come out at times! Is this normal? I have not had that Mucus yet, that everyone talks about

I dont know what its called! Its reversable and I hand a pouch from the stoma site. I have alot of gas that goes in the pouch, but Im having the urge from my butt. I can feel it working all the time, like its bui8lding up for a good one,waiting to escape and sometimes it does! Hmmm I never feel anything wet by my butt.... but, I was looking for snot! They should have explained "Mucus" lol

You don't have a jpouch but you do have a diverting colostomy and the concept is still the same. As food travels through your colon some of it is going out to your bag, the rest is diverting down through your colon. So yes, it's normal to have gas, feces, and mucus exit through your anus. No need to be concerned. Also, don't panic if you see light blood. This is just a sign of healthy tissue.

I too had a diverting colostomy due to diverticulosis for nine weeks last Fall.

Yes, you will still occasionally pass gas out the back. Scared me but the nurse said it was normal. 'Didn't get into much of the why's and wherefore's but other than the cleansing prep doesn't completely clear out every last bit. So there is stuff from pre-surgery still in there to generate gas.

In fact, while prepping for the reversal and take down, an enema produced a surprising amount of solid material that I thought couldn't still be in there.


Anyway, I obviously lived to talk about it!
