OT...hair falling out like crazy...over 4 months post op

     Anyone else have this problem?  Could it possibly be a vitamin deficiency?  A few more months like this and I will look like Kojak sad .

its probably just from the stress of the surgery and such. It takes a while for your body to get back to normal

Christine, I had this after my first surgery that was on April 1. It didn't start right away, probably about six or eight weeks later. It got really bad. Thank goodness, it finally stopped about a month ago. Hope I don't get it again with my subsequent surgeries. Hang in there.

     Scrap girl...is the hair growing back yet?  I'm 64 yrs old...maybe it won't even grow back?  I was thinking of trying Rogaine but afraid of the chemicals in it.  I have been using Nioxin which I purchased from the hair dresser a long time ago, but it isn't helping any.  I have a really nice wig..lol.  People think it is my own hair.

Hair loss is totally normal after surgery! I've had hair loss after each of my surgeries. It usually starts several months after surgery and lasts about 4-6 weeks. It's quite upsetting to have lots of hair come out in the shower and in your hairbrush shocked, and I usually cry cry, but remember, it will stop and new hair will grow back! It's just the circle of the hair follicle's life... :-)

I've been having hair loss for about 5 years. Unsure of why. No one can figure it out. I am hoping it was malnutrition and so will hopefully get better once all of this surgery stress is over. I wear a wig too. I teach 5th grade and my students love telling me which wig is their favorite. I don't mind wearing wigs cuz I like to go shopping for new ones but I'd much rather have my hair back. I really miss it.

80'schick, this may sound dumb, but do you use color or perms on your hair, or heat, or even hair spray?
the reason i ask is, years ago, my mom's hair fell out like crazy! and it was a combo of the color and the hair spray she was using. It kept doing it for a long time, and noone ever thought of that, and then, for some reason she stopped getting it colored at the same place, and the other place used a different type, and it stopped. and so it was finally figured out that it was either a combo of what she was using, or just the color, but when she changed hair sprays also, it grew back in much better.

Thanks for the ideas, Summer...I actually never really colored it until it fell out. And as for hairspray, I did use it, but switched it up, so I doubt it was that. Plus I haven't used hairspray at all in the past year or so since I've been wearing wigs.

After my surgery my hair was really falling out.had to clean the drain in the tub. My doctor and one nurse in the hospital said to drink Ensure. The nurse said 3 bottles a day. It is expensive but really works. I have been drinking one bottle a day now for about 9 months.

It took about 3 months before the hair stopped falling out completely.

I cannot tell if it is growing back. But I am not bald!!!

     Hmmm...all interesting responces.  I do color my hair myself but the last time I used hair dye, it didn't even take.  That was about three weeks ago.  My hair looks brittle and dry and I do use a blow dryer and hair spray.  I keep my hair very short too.

     Crank....interesting about Ensure.  They gave it to me in the hospital every day and when I came home I used to drink it because I couldn't yet eat everything.  I haven't had it for several months...got sick of it...lol.  It does contain a lot of vitamins and nutrients, so I think I will try it for lunch again.  Thanks.

Christine, yes I think my hair has started growing back. When my hair falls out I always take Biotin 5000 mcg. You can buy it at any drug store for like $5. I think it was Red that first told me about it. Makes a big difference if you take it every day.

They have a new Ensure flavor out it is Coffee Latte. They sent me a sample and I can say it was pretty good. I liked the Wild Berry but they discontinued it.

I haven't been able to find the Coffee Latte in any stores yet.

They also gave it to me in the hospital. The Plus kind 3 times a day. It really helps.

Look for hair, skin, and nail vitamins at the store. They are good to take, too.

     Bought a bottle of soft gels labeled Longer Stronger Hair and Nails.  The pharmacist said they would be fine to take.  My nails look great, probably because of the calcium I take but my hair...ugh smhair

     OHIO...you must have read my mind!  I was thinking of having my B12 levels tested because of fatigue.
