     How is it you came about taking B-12 shots?  Did your family doctor have to order blood tests?

I was supposed to get the shots but the nurse in the hospital kept telling me how painful they were, so I asked for pills instead. I had blood tests in the hospital

I had blood tests and was VERY low in B12 (tired, tingling fingers, toes and lips). Some people are like that because the body does not absorb it, so just taking pills is not always the answer. I have the shots and they aren't painful what so ever, and I am a BIG baby.

I had tests when I had u/c and was low, so the Dr. ordered them. Then, after surgery, the Dr. thought it'd be a good idea to keep them up, since I also lost some of my small intestine anyway. I had my levels checked recently, and it's good, so I continue to do them every 2 weeks-ish (sometimes I forget).

I do not think the shots hurt, at all! I don't understand what that nurse was talking about. If you have to get lovanox injections, THOSE hurt.

Blood work shows your levels...if you have issues at your Terminal Ilium you may not absorb enough B12.

I give myself IM shots monthly, at home, and they do not hurt any more than other shots...they aren't like Heparin!!!

See, Lovenox shots don't bother me at all and neither did Humira. The nurse was just freaking me out

     I went to my family doctor this morning and he said even though I don't feel up to par, that he thought I was doing fantastic considering the surgery I went through, my age and all the medications I was on prior to surgery.  He said my extended use of prednisone took a toll on my system and it will most likely take a year for me to get my strength back.

     He ordered extensive blood work....CBC with Diff/platelets, Comp. Metabolic Panel (14), Hepatic function Panel, Lipid Panel, TSH, Vitamin B12 & Folate, Serum Cortesol.  This should get to the bottom of things.

     Tomorrow I go for the MRI of abdomen and pelvis with and without contrast.  The surgeon wants to make sure he isn't missing anything.  I continue to pass mucus.  The pressure has gone away since he suctioned out my anus last Tuesday.

     BOY...I will be sooooo glad when all these issues are resolved.  Before UC,  I went to the doctor's office once a year, if that!!! eyes

I inject monthly after my primary doc ran blood work that showed I was deficient. I have an ileostomy so I don't absorb it anymore and will need to inject from now on.
Injection isn't painful and I do it myself.

     Shiney..I had the same operation as you.  My hair looks HORRIBLE smhair !!!  I always had thin hair but it really is dry and falling out.  I also have dryness around the corners of my mouth.  Sounds like B12 defiency huh?  Very tired also.  What an old crock I am turning into tongue .

I take 1shot of b12 each week. I also take a procrit 1 time month. No matter what you save on vitamin b 12, you will blow it ,manytimes over if you have to augment it with procrit about $400
